Dutch Coast Challenge 2004
http:/
It will be small event that is for sure but it is looking to become a real fun event as well.
We are looking at welcoming participants from AUS, US and maybe even South Africa. That in addition to the three Dutch crews. We have to look for crew spots for the US and SA crews but right now it looks like that is covered as we currently have 3 vacant spots.
I really must admit that I assumed that some of us would be singlehanding on this trip but now I'm looking for more boats and crew spots. A little bit awkward.
I will contact the various builders and see wether they have something on offer.
So why this post ?
Well, if you are a F16, Taipan, Spitfire or Bim 16 sailor and interested in participating with your boat then please mail to WouterHijink@hotmail.com and we'll set you up with a crew.
Personally I looking forward to sailing the thermals and dining on the beach. Can we attract an Alabama or Missipi BBQ king ?
Ohh by the way. I think we do have a Charter boat on offer. I will have to check with the people owning it but I don't see much other use for the Prototype Blade once the test sailing is done ?
S. and K. , I forgot to mention this in my mail but I think you can charter this one for some 700-1000 USD / Euro.
S. for you I may have another option as well but that will require some more time.
K. I think I have a solution for your back. We'll get you a proper bed.
All, this is going to be a Beach life trip so costs of the stay itself are expected to not run beyond 200 Euro's/dollars for the week. Specail arrangements can be made for people who want extra luxury. Just ask me and I wil arrange it. Personally I'm going to sleep on the beach (tents) or in the club houses. I love the sound of the surf. I also have liters of good wine and "strong medicine" that I will donate although I will make sure that nobody get beyond tipsy; I don't like drunk people and we're not going to set a bad example for the kids. I hope Geert will bring his GPS tracker so we can do "speed runs" as a Trial. With enough participation we'll get a Geko GPS tracker (US 140,-) with 10.000 points and do it right; The winner takes this one as a prize !
Any ideas to improve on this is much welcomed and you may send them by mail or post them as a reply to this post.

We have just received commitment from
2 Australians
2 South Africans
2 Brits
4 Dutch sailors
And we still expect Kirt and crew to sign up as well. Kirt ; my mails may not be coming throught to you. Please get into contact with me. We may have a charter boats for you and your crew.
Dutch sailors are a minority in their own event. My God.
Still 2 crews on tentative but with 10 sailors and 5 boats already we are bound to lure at least one of these to the event.

Okay,
Things are getting along in ernest now.
We'll (Christine and Wouter) start mailing the clubs along the way the coming week. We've just devided up the work and hope to have all necessary details knows by early januari. In time for all the participants to starting asking free of work and get your tickets in the cheap pre-sales.
The map the the netherlands has not been changed although the program has. Ignore this map for the next couple of days when we are redrawing it.
Rescheduling of the Kustzeilevenement has put this event out of the scope of our trip. We are replacing this with club races at Zandvoort and a gentle acclimatisation to the Dutch conditions and coastline. We are nearer to the Island of Texel now (some 50 km) and will be able to venture out further along the Islands in the North. These more pretty than the southern costline anyway. So we loose some and win some.
We have decided on a safary setup. Meaning camping on the beach with luxury or luxurious food and drink. At least during the trip along the coast. In the weekends we will likely have a hard roof over our heads with restrooms and showers.
Initial calculations show our day to day costs to be relatively low. By far the major costs will be the plane tickets and the charter fare. No news on this front yet but we still have a few options to investigate.
Some have asked wether this is definately on. YES !
We don't have garantee on boats but the event is on even when we have to do on just 3 boats. But the commitments already show at least 4 boats and 8 sailors (not counting the charter crews). So we're going to do this alright.

The Challenge starts on saterday 24 july 2004 and ends on Sunday afternoon / evening 1 august 2004
Some sailors will be staying on till halve august. They will be able to attend another regatta. We expect that the annual Zanvoort REM race/distance racing regatta (2 days) will be held on 14 and 15 august 2004.
As this is our home club (Christine / Wouter) we'll be attending this REM weekend as well.
