How many F-16s would be coming to the west coast of Sweden if we managed to put on an event there 28.06-29.06? We might have an opportunity to race on the same course as the scandinavian tornados (great gang). Club is excellent with great facilities for launching, retrieval, toilets etc and the racing area is good with very experienced staff.
How many are willing to commit now so we can approach the club with a firm number? We would aim to bring 4 boats down there from Norway, but we need swedes, danes, germans and everybody else if we are to make this happen.

Rolf,
Can you estimate how much this will cost per team ?
Like acomodations, fees etc...
Why not Germany ? It's more accesible for most people spread out in Europe, that means more boats, hopefully...
Too bad we are in the very bottom of Europe...

Why southern Sweden? Becouse it is the

swedish riviera

and not too far from where I live <img src=

alt=

/> Still a rough 15 hours to drive tough!
I want to get something going for the northern parts of Europe, and since it looks like I have to organize it myself, I must be able to attend and have connections. If you look at the map, you can see that southern Sweden is actually quite central for scandinavia and Germany.

Cost pr team: Last time we raced there with the Tornado it was EUR100 which included tenting on a nearby camping place. Then add travel expenses, alternative lodging etc.

We are at the outskirts of Europe both you and I. If we want something to happen, we got to do it ourself..

I would be interested in coming over. Where is event planned i.e. how long I need to drive from Stockholm?

You will have to drive down to the west coast, but once there it is just north of Malmø, outside Landskrona. The place is called Borstahusen and the event website is here: http://www.nordicweek.se/

But we need to get a firm number before we approach the event organizers, Borstahusens segel selskap, and ask for participation in the event. I have checked with the Tornado guys and both the sailors and their assocs. think it would be cool to share the course and the social events with F-16s.
I did not really want to reveal the event organizers as I would like to approach them myself and work with the Tornado guys to gain entry into the event. So, please dont contact them before we have a sufficient number of boats firm on their participation.

I would be very positively surprised if anybody from further away than Germany or Finland was willing to commit themself to this. Travelling takes time and costs money..

Rolf, the jackpot at the Romanian National Lottery is 13 million euros.
If I'm going to win this Sunday, I will definitely be there, and be a sponsor for the event.

Think that it sounds like an excellent idea. Lot of other interesting classes to watch as well, so count me in!

I did some checking, it seems that it wouldn't be too expensive and there shouldn't be anything else on calendar, so I'm coming if we get class there (unless me/family or my boat breaks). I'll talk with Åke if we could get other Finnish wooden Blades there too.

If we'll be there how about some action on friday? Tune up race on friday or monday would be good and make trip more worth it <img src=

I am working on it, and it seems like we can be there with the Sydväst Blade as well.

Alf,
Valtteri,
Gato,
Rolf

That is four. My building partners have checked schedules and one is on Mallorca while the other is working. That leaves us with just one other boat from Norway, and he is just a

possible

. We do need more boats, at least the double, before this will happen. No other boats in Sweden, Denmark or northern Germany?

I think that according to our frappr map there would be still three possibilities: Holger at Kiel (478 km's), Pontus at Malmö (42 km's) and Magnus at Stockholm (577 km's). Do we know their emails or something so that we could get hold of them directly? Also there might be some others at northern Germany but we should somehow get in touch with them.

Hopefully we can make this happen because Mumbles will be out of my reach holiday wise. It would also be nice to show us around few other cat classes to get more visibility for us in Skandinavia.

It would be very good to be able to run an event here and not only show other classes but also get some coverage in our sailing media. We would have to write the reports ourself, but hey <img src=

Here I am, as a regular reader of this forum I followed this thread, but I have to say that this event is out of my possibilities. No holidays in this period.

That would leave us with two other possibilities that are living nearby. Holger, do you know any other F16 sailors in northern Germany that might be interested in coming over?

Has there ever be anyone posting here from Danmark?

I have my own Blade as well, and if things are getting tight I could try to get it ready, the problem will be rig and sails (my sailbudget is a little bit stressed for the moment, had to get new sails for another boat).
Don't think there will be any problems getting somebody to sail it.

First off, I have managed to mess up really bad. The dates for the event we are aiming at is 28.07-29.07, end of july, not june.. dont know how I managed read the timetable wrong: http://www.nordicweek.se/schedule_table.asp

What would that do with our roll call? I talked with my building compadres and one was a

certainly

while the other was a

check with my wife

.

Here is a photo of the launching area with the shallow beach we launch from. Camping to the left, ramp and boat parking just to the right of the big white party-tent. Trailers parked behind the boathouses to the right of the party tent. It is a really nice place! If I remember correctly there is a restaurant with a good (for europe that is) sirloin just to the left of the clubhouse. [Linked Image]

Sorry for the date mixup, hope it doesnt mess up the timetables too badly!

Does look like a great place! Too bad I have committed to sailing the GC in Mumbles. I won't mention it to my husband because he will want to change holiday destinations. <img src=

By all means, dont go to Sweden for a low-key

Scandinavian challenge

event if you can go to Mumbles and the GC!

Valtteri, have you looked at the schedule and confirmed that my eyes and brain are in sync this time? Jeez..

BTW: That beach is the nicest launch we have been to. If the sun is shining, the water is lukewarm in there. Sheltered from all directions there could be trouble with surf etc.

Yeah, I wonder why I didn't read that calendar through first time... It ends at early August, July and June are easy to mess up sometimes (I always need to check which is which).

Ok, we are on! Ref: http://www.nordicweek.se/ look for the F-16 logo.

We need 5 boats to get a start, but we should aim for at least 8-10 boats. Gato, Holger, Alf and you other swedes, time to commit if we want this to happen. It is even possible we get one of the Dart16 guys to come down with us from Norway just to participate and have a good time, so follow his example and do this for fun.
Who else can we put some pressure on to make them come?

There is now one entry.

We don't have exact date yet for our class, are we sharing dates with Tornado/H16 or F18/Melges/Kona? Shouldn't matter for me this time, but for some it might be needed.

We are racing with the tornados and Hobie 16s. Probably on two different courses? Will be quite some cats there those two days. 28.07 and 29.07-2008

Firm:
Gato
Valtteri
Rolf
Frode

Possible:
Omar
Bjørn

Guys we would like to hear from:
Alf
Holger
Pontus
Mangan (Magnus)

Anybody else?

I'll fill in my entry and pay the dues (SEK650) tonight and strong-arm Frode to do the same (he is a bit hesitant, wondering if the boats will be ready, but he always is <img src=

alt=

/> ).

Like I have said earlier in this thread, I'm out. No holidays in this period.
There was the question of other interested F16 sailors from Northern Germany. I havn't heard of other F16's sailors in entire Germany. The AHPC dealer in Hamburg sold two Taipan F16 over one year ago, but they are not interested in sailing regattas.
