It has almost been a public secret that some 20+ Taipans are hiding out in South-East Asia of which the bulk are F16's.

Up till now they have been relatively quiet about it (with exception of Koh Samui regatta 2003), BUT no LONGER !

It is official and public now. Changi Sailing Club in Singapore ( http://www.csc.org.sg/ )is organising the Asian Inaugural Formula 16 event. She joins USA, Australia, South Africa and Europe by doing so. Since conception of the class in may 2001 we will have had 5 inaugural events in as many continents before the class turns 4 years old.

But what is best, or actually what I think is best, is that in line with Changi Sailing Club tradition and the F16 spirit of the rules all 16 foot catamarans of different makes are welcome to join in the event.

Bring what you got and join the (after sail ?) party.

Go to :

http://www.formula16-asia.org/

And see for yourself, some parts are till less filled with content then intended, as is always the case with websites. But by far most of it has been completed and I especially advice taken a look at the sections :

Photo's

http://asiaboatrag.net/formula/F16photos/index.html

and

Tips :

http://asiaboatrag.net/formula/F16tips/intro.html

This tips section pretty much summarizes the key points in tuning the Taipan 4.9 and Blade Rigs. Less detailed then the tuning links I provided in an earlier past and for that reason probably best suited for novices and intermediate in the field of tuning.

Have fun !

Movie 1 :

Taipan #282 has an excellent start here taken a sizeably lead over the single A-cat in the fleet of Taipans. David Lee must have felt really good about this start. (Start line is of course between the camera and the red bouy)

Movie 2 :

http://www.q-bixblue.com/movie/cscdnc/2.MPG

Continious were movie 1 stopped. A-cat is in hot persuit. Some other Taipans hit the line a little bit late.

Movie 3 :

http://www.q-bixblue.com/movie/cscdnc/3.MPG

Taipan F16 #293 tries to make a port flyer at the starboard end of the line. That is asking for trouble. The fleet of Taipan F16, being sailed together as 2-ups and 1-up, pulls right off way on him and sail over him leaving him in the wake. You can hear the RC in the start vessel commenting on this manouvre in I suspect Thai.

Enjoy !

By surfing about on the Changi website I found these as well.

I really like the tune and trim section. Look really nice and is a good starting point for novice and intermediate (F16) cat sailors. A good base to know before continuing on the detailled data provided at :
