Hi all,

yes you read it right, I sailed the FCA Blade F16 TWO Up today
<img src=

alt=

/>.

First time out with the self tacking jib, set up by Marcus, it worked great. So neat on the boat just two pins to take the whole thing on and off cleats and all. <img src=

alt=

/> Tim took some photo's which I hope he will post, thanks Tim.

The boat felt great, with my youngest brother crewing (still makes him 38yo), we had about 150kg on the boat, couldn't believe how lively it felt in 5-8knot breeze never had enough to trap, but still was flying. Can't wait till the Sauna Sail next weekend, time to hunt some snakes. <img src=

Gary is this because the Goodall boys won the state challenge 2 up on the Viper?

Must say it looks like a very tidy set up!

Hi Mitch,

the Blade F16 was originaly designed to sail one or two up equally well, however I don't think it would be unfair to say they like a bit of weight on board, their is a lot of sail area downwind! The two up configuration has just not been a priority as all new boat orders have been for one up. But as I have been getting lighter under 75kg., I have been thinking about sailing two up to get more people involved, now that Marcus has built the setup it's all go.

Obviously I would like to prove the Blade is competitive two up as well in OZ. Although this is already well proven in the US. As for the Viper I allways thought the consistency of the two up configuration would be hard to beat for the F16 title, I doubt we will be up to their standard of crew work, but hopefully I can get better placings in 15 knot + winds with more weight on the boat.

I have edited this post at the request of the poster.

Hi Steve,

it looks like a possable now, as I will not be attending the Global Challenge in Wales.

Is the Squaddy Brass Monkey definetly on? Or have the Skiffs got sick of Cats beating them? <img src=

Hi Gary, too bad you won't be attending the GC in Wales.

Gill and I were really looking forward seeing you sail in real life after we saw all those cool pictures of you!!!

Any chance you're still going to make it?

I have attached a close up photo of the self tacker, which was taken before it was finished off, so ignore the sharp ends.

Forget the sharp ends. I don't see a tramp pouch to hold beer. Aren't you Aussie?

Greg,
You want the beer in stubbie holders on the side stays.

Tramp pocket? Too far away!

How do you get to it when your on the wire?

You want to be able to reach in, adjust the rotation and gab another tinnie while your at it.

Regards,
Phill

Thanks! I take this kind of advice very seriously. This should solve my drinking

problem.

The jib looks like it has full length battens, is that correct?

Yes that's right. The pocket is sealed at the leech and the battens go in from the front - held in when the luff is zipped up. They are surprisingly solid battens.

Is that direct intra-venous beer in the photo? Or is it something stronger?

I know Formula Catamarans Australia are trying to source as many of their components locally, so i guess the local beer is the obvious option!

As for the Brass Monkey, I will confirm dates soon but it looks like it will be the 9th and 10 Aug.

I am keen to get as many cats their as possible for this year. Last year I made the 18 look ordinary on the F18 which realy got to them. I'd expect they will bring some guns this year.

That setup looks pretty good Gary/Simon... Unless it is back to back races! Is there some way to

refuel

on the water?

Mitch,
You have a point.

Looks like we will need that pocket in the tramp for refills.

Phill

Steve,
Neat system.
I suppose it has the added bonus of keeping both hands free while rigging. Something well worth considering.
Just a little concerned that body heat may take the edge off the chill in the beer.

I suppose that wouldn't be so much of a problem if you filled it with rum.

Regards,
Phill

Hi Kathleen,

sorry to say no chance, just to expensive. Would have had to forgo all family holidays and all house upgrades for at least a year to be able to make it. Decided family and

Browny Points

more important. <img src=

alt=

/> Also felt the series was very short to travel all that way.

Maybe we will meet another time? I must say meeting many of the Forum members was a major reason to go. <img src=

alt=

/>

As for cool photo's you can do anything with Photo Shop as is being shown in this thread <img src=

I am afraid I can sail a boat made by Crow Eaters but I draw the line at Crow Eaters Beer. I would have to source my beer from overseas <img src=

alt=

/> Tassie that is <img src=

alt=

/> Boag's Classic Blonde is my drop of choice at the moment. <img src=

There was a New South Welshman, a Victorian and a Queenslander sitting in a pub.

The barman askes the New South Welshman what he would like to drink. His reply was

I will have a Toohey's Blue, the sponsor of the mighty ****.

The barman gets the man a Toohey's.

The barman then askes the Victorian what he would like to drink. His reply was

I will have a Carlton Draft, Victoria's finest.

The barman gets the man a Carlton.

The barman finaly askes the Queenslander what he would like to drink. His reply was

I will have a water thanks mate.

The barman is taken back by this and asks him why he does not want a XXXX.

Well

saild the Queenslander

If these boys are not going to drink beer, then neither am I

Go the Cane Toads

Gary,
I just got off the phone with Greg Goodall (coincidentally).
He was saying he is taking the viper to the Sauna Sail but because of uni exams he wont have a crew.
So, he is sailing solo <img src=

alt=

/> you announce the sloop rigged Blade and as a result miss the opportunity to race Greg one up!
That must be frustrating!

You must be joking <img src=
