Mumbles Week

Just a quick reminder about Mumbles Week, August 14th-18th. 3 Races/day. Entry fee £5.00/day. Each day will be scored seperately so competitors could sail for just 1 or all 5 days. I cant guarantee the weather but if Carlsberg did Sailing Reggatas it would be something like this.
P.S If you're interested please send me a PM.
Does everyone in England/Ireland/Scotland/Europe take off the month of August? Seems like the whole place is shut down with everyone gone on holiday that month. Why is that? I like the idea, I only wish we did that here in America! It's too hot to work! Florida has been setting records this week, about 96-97F the last couple days with very little rain.

Hi Tim
The first day of Mumbles week was just great. We are all on Holiday and enjoying the warm sunshine, blue seas and 10-15mph winds from the North = flat sea and near perfect conditions. Three short races on small courses and then back to the bar for liquid refeshments.
Lifes a beach.....cat.

When I was in Germany in August a few years ago, lots of shops were closed for the month. Seems there were quite a few in England closed in August too. When I asked why, the locals told me,
It's too hot so we all go on holliday in August.
Sounds like a great idea to me! But my kids just started school today in Florida, absolutely the hotest month of the year. A couple weeks ago two kids died at football practice due to heat stroke. Starting football in the hottest month, in Florida, Brilliant.

I spoke to soon!!! Tuesday = sun, light wind and big seas. Hard going getting the boat moving. Wednesday, big wind, bigger sea and v scary (no actual race but rescue cover for those brave enough to go out) My boat decided to leap off the side of slip and launched without me on it!!!!!Luckily only damaged pride. Thursday's race cancelled due to thunder storms but went out accompanied by an A Class Auz Flyer and had a ball. The fact that the Lifeboat was about to be scrambled as I wiped out during a swap over of tiller arm and spi sheet arm due to fatigue, and not being ambidextrous did have something to do with it. It did work for a little while but I wouldn't recommend it to other solo F16 sailors. I didn't have either a pillow case or trash bag and took 30mins plus to get boat upright again with the aid of the Auz Flyer. You learn by your mistakes? Roll on Friday, what else can go wrong!!!
