spinnaker cleats

Hi what are you guys using as the cleat for the halyard on the spinnaker.thinking of using a RF67 rotating cleat or would a fixed (cam cleat)one be better.Tried to look at photo's on the web site but can not seem to get a clear photo. thanks danny

Hi Danny,

I have always used fixed cleats, most small cleats with a guide on them will be ok, Ronstan, Harken, Riley. Spinlocks are another possible option.

Just a fixed cam cleat where I replaced the plastic guide on top by a metal eyestrap. You will wear through the plastic really quick when hoisting the spi. Metal on the other hand ....

I switched to Spinlock after having no end of trouble with a Harken swiveling cam cleat on a Hobie Tiger. Never did figure out why it kept letting go, but got bored of pitchpoling as a result and moved to Spinlock.

I think it's a matter of taste, though. There are plenty of people who dislike Spinlock cleats.
