Okay fellow 16 footers :

The new Cup standings are here and the seeminly unbeatable monster score of Geert Reusink is reeled in.

Two spitfires have opened the attack. Dermot Mangan/Cathy Clarke and Neil Mangan/Anny .J. Lawrence.

Our senior competitor Dermot (54) has come from nowhere to placing number 2 with 81 points. He entered no less than 9 races !

Neil is still lagging on his old man but that is mainly because we can't haven't counted the Carnac 2002 results yet. Neil had some good finishings there.

The same applies to John Pierce and Sue Davis.

However, I will count the Raids results of Carnac in a few hours time. And I hope to get the elapsed time and boat types for the course races at Carnac. If anybody can help me with those then I would be very gratefull.

Counting the scored is a very time-consuming activity.

When you click the attachment on the left you'll see Spitfire number 023; sailed by Grant Piggott/ James Bird of Weston S.C. It is in front of a Hobie Tiger F18. And this is not a lucky shot for this team finished first in the 64 boat strong open class at Carnac.

Place number 3 was taking by Frederic Leger / Guillaume Bapst also on a spitfire.

Any change in getting these crews to compete in the David and Goliath cup ? That 191 score of Geert Reusink and Raymond v.d. Haas on the Taipan 4.9 spi requires some good sailing to beat.

Also mixed crews are well represented and scoring very well indeed. At least halve of all the crews is of a mixed make up.

Now, All the current Cup standings are by European crews. Naturally the other continents can't let this pass unchallenged.

So you USA crews (I know Kenneth and Ann-Marie Newbury did well at the Mayday regatta) and you Australian crews (there most be a few of you outthere) ? How about giving these europeans a challenge ?

With kind regards,

Wouter

I've only counted the F18;s thus far as I have no info about the other boat types. but ...

WOW !!!.

Dermots 2nd placing was short lived. Sorry Dermot !

And both Neil/Anny and John/Sue have started battling it out.

John/Sue did get the better of the first direct match between these two crews on respectively the Spitfire and the Stealth F16.

John beat 76 boats of the F18 fleet in the Raid. Neil beat 44 boats of the F18 fleet. Giving John some 152 points with just one race and Neil 141 points with 8 races counted.

Immediately I noticed that John/Sue had taken a shot at Geert/Raymond for the "F18's beat in one race" record.

Geert/Raymond beat = 39 out of 57 = 68 % of the fleet at Oktober bokaal in autumn 2001

John/Sue beat = 76 out of 116 = 66 % of the fleet at Carnac 2002

Ooohhhh, close. Very close, but the record is still in the hands of Geert and Raymond.

That cushion that Geert and Raymond have looks less unatainable than it looked before, I must say.

However the best 16 footer score in the raid distance race (3 hours) was made by Spitfire 009 of Leger and Bapst finishing ahead of 83 F18's = 72 % of the fleet.
