I have some results and a short report of the wind conditions :

This is the short report I received

"the first three races were very light and shifty, race 3

was a complete lottery with 90% of the fleet finishing in a gust within 2

minutes of each other, races 4 and 5 were in constant wind 15 - 18 knots, the

raid was again 15 - 18 knots."

The following data was gethered from http://www.alyzea.com/eurocat2002/feneures.html

F18HT's were 131 and 116 and another (Bim F18HT 2000) but I don't know the sailnumber of that.

I assume that you are also interested in the brother class which is the F16 class. So I will list those too.

F16's - Spitfire by Neill Mangan and Stealth by John Pierce (The ones I know of, but there were more I think)

All boats started in the same fleet and raced the same courses.

Finishings (out of 63 seriously competing boats):

F18HT's

32th 116 MONTI Matteo/ RAFFAELLI Federico VELA CLUB MARANO

117.00 : 4 24 DNF 46 43 0 (strike out the DNF)

24th 131 GORI Pierpaolo/ BRUNELLI ALDO CLUB NAUTICO RIMINI

88.50 : 16 25 23 24 28 0 (strike out the 28)

The 16's

11 th 521 PIERCE JOHN/ DAVIS SUE club CARSINGTON

55.50 : 28 15 13 12 15 0 (strike out the 28)

31 th 011 MANGAN Neil/LAURENCE Anny Jane BLESSINGTON S.C

113.50 : 12 11 17 DNF DNF 0 (Strike out one DNF)

The Raid standings (221 boats competing);

62th 521 PIERCE JOHN/DAVIS SUE GBR MC1 17 34 elapsed 03:08:58 rated 03:07:06

97th 011 MANGAN Neil/LAURENCE Anny Jane IRL MC1 25 50 elapsed 03:21:05 Rated 03:13:20

176th 116 MONTI Matteo/RAFFAELLI Federico ITA MC1 39 78 elapsed 03:31:08 Rated 03:35:26

Not ranked 131 GORI Pierpaolo/BRUNELLI ALDO ITA MC1 --- 146 DNF

With kind regards,

Wouter,

It is difficult to recognise the classes when they are not named in the results chart.

There were at least 11 Spitfires at Carnac. They raced in a mixed fleet of over 60 which included the Stealth, Tornadoes, Hurricane 5.9s, Nacra 6s, Inter 20s and Hobie 18s, all with spinnakers. You will find that the Spitfires took the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th places, with their designer Yves Loday in 2nd place on the singlehanded Shadow. The next Shadow was in 7th. 9th place was also a Spitfire.

Neil Mangan broke his boom and lost 2 races, so was down the fleet. There were 2 more Spitfires in the top 20.

In the Raid, the first two Spitfires finished in 29th and 32nd. They were a few minutes ahead of the Stealth on the water.

There were over 200 cats in the Raid, including more than 100 F18s sailed by some of the worlds top cat sailors. This made it very difficult for the smaller cats to get a good start and clear air.

Best regards from Ireland,

Dermot Mangan

That means that some might have earned big points in the F16HP cup. Remember the David and Goliath cup ?

Do you have a listing somewhere of the boat types maybe per sailnumber. I know will sunnocks sails a Tornado and so other team I recognise too but a listing would be perfect.

Seems like the 16's are doing well. To bad about Neil I saw that his first 3 finishings were right up the list.

Because the F18s and the mixed class sailed the same course, it was difficult for Neil to judge his position against others. Also some of the unmeasured F18s raced in the mixed class. It is a pity that the make of cat is not listed, as you say we can recognise some names, but apart from the Raid, where the times are given, it is impossible to tell if the 16s were ahead of bigger cats or not.
