Hi Gary

Just wanted to ask what model/year A Class, Altered is based upon. I'm thinking of buying an older A class (Not really that old) for parts mainly for my taipan. Theres nothing wrong with the boat, but it wouldn't be a competitive A class to anyone, and a source of good parts and a trailer for me. But not that I'll committ myself to anything, but I might have a play with hulls one day after the taipan is a goer.

thanks

Matt

Hi Matt,

I believe the A class that I modified to become

Altered

, was the first ever attempt by Boyer to make a fat bottomed A class, after Glenn Ashby returned from Europe looking for a faster design than the Mk4. I believe it was built around 2000.

I almost did what you describe myself, except the A was to far away. You can certainly get cheap foils and trailers that way.

Regards Gary.

Hi Gary

Yeah the one I'm looking at isn't far away, and is priced right. I think it would older than yours but I'm not exactly sure by how much, a few years I guess. It is a good way to get parts, normally being on the land and having all tools, I would build things like the trailer, but the additional gear, and after the numbers are crunched I'd be mad to leave it there. If I do go ahead with the purchase, i'd probably like to call on you for advice if you didn't mind. I'm considering having a big clean out of boats this year, 2 X 125 dinghys, 2 possibly 3 x mosquitos (I collect plywood).
and I think i've got a Cherub somewhere I lent out a few years ago, then the new family of cats will welcomed in.

Regards

Matt
