Formula 18 helicopter video - Comments?

That is beautiful! Must have been some really freaky wind with the way you guys did 4 complete 360º's on the same tack.

The helicopter was going around us. I thought it was kind of weird the first time I saw it then liked it the next couple of times, when I got used to it. Just think of it as trying to get all the viewpoints while sailing downwind.

I was surprised to see the daggerboards all the way down. What kind of sails are these?

This was not my normal crew. Bobby K, my normal crew, would have had those boards up in a moment. Roger just does not want to listen to me but we had a nice sail anyway. He would not even get to the back straps which is the way I like to sail the boat in this much breeze.

When I sail with Eileen we usually do not worry too much about the boards. They are rather physical for her to get up. I just sail with the hull a bit higher out of the water so there is not too much drag.

Those are Glaser Sails. One of the reasons we got some footage is that Jay Glaser was in the helicopter with the still camera and Howie had the video.

That video made me want to get pop the chute on my F18 and fly a hull downwind. It looks like fun!
