Hobie Tiger question
To
install,
you just slide the boards into the slots in the hulls once you're in deep-enough water. To beach in no-surf, flat conditions, people just pull them high enough to have the tips above the bottom of the hull. In surf, it is better to pull them out and slide them under the straps on the trampoline to prevent them slipping back down.
There's some good video of a Tiger launching HERE <img src=

That's just mean John! Who would beach launch if they thought it was always like that?
The concern about launching a daggerboard boat through the surf is sand and making way. You do not want to put the daggerboards in while you are in the wash where all the sand is mixed with the foam and waves as it is not good for the boat.
Best wind direction would be running parallel with the beach which is unusual. That way you can get out without worrying about rudders or daggerboards. You can steer with the main while keeping the jib rather tight. Pulling in on the main traveler will steer you upwind and letting out will ease you down. Reason you do not want your rudders down is if the wave catches you and takes you backwards you do not want to break off the gudeons.
If the wind is on the nose AND there are big waves AND you are not experienced...DON'T LAUNCH! Get used to smaller waves first. Even small waves can be a challenge.
If there are no waves sail part way out with the rudders 1/2 way down until you can kick them all the way down and when you find clean water put your daggerboards in. When you come in turn the boat toward the wind while still in the water, have your crew retrieve the beachwheels and put them under the boat while still floating. This will keep the most sand out of Daggerboard wells and keep from scratching boat while landing.
Later,
Dan
Love the vid...
Looks like day one at the OZ F18 Worlds.
