Hi,
Does anyone have the spec for the lightweight spinnaker sheet which seems to be on some of the newer catamarans such as the FX-1. I beleive that it does not abosorb too much water.

My personal recommendation for spin sheets is a line by New England Ropes called "Flightline." We sell it at layline, and it is some sweet stuff. I don't have it on my boat yet, but it is soon to be added. Second on my list would either be swiftcord by G. Maffioli or Dyneema Race 2 by Samson. All but the swiftcord can be tapered. All are waterproof (they float). Flightline is the lightest!

the maffioli is nice but you can see it where it wears on the turning blocks after 1 or 2 regattas.

(we noticed it after the first spin run of the T500)

I'm using Flightline on the SC20 and Yale Light on the Reynolds and like 'em both. Neither absorb much water and are very lightweight.

Ive been impressed with conception also, Ive used Maffioli and conception, both seem equal in grip, weight, non water absorbing, but the conception seems to last a little longer.

Been using the swift cord for spin sheet for a year - including some distance races. Very comfortable to handle! We also use a smaller size for the jib halyard and a couple of local boats us it for the spin halyard (but I think it is too big and furry for that).

Re. Swiftcord wear...I've had it on my Tornado spin sheets for over 3 years and yes, visibly it appears worn where it runs through the rachets...but in my opinion this is just the fuzz tufts that have been shaved down...the main fibre bundles are all there and working great after all this time. I like it so much I now have it on the main sheet (3/8") and it runs through the 9:1 57mm carbo blocks like nothing else I've used. Only issue I have is that it sticks very well to my drysuit velcro on the sleeve cuffs...can't quite let the line go sometimes 🙂

They now have a new version of this line with a core that's supposed to be better for holding in cleats.

I just switched to Flightline 1/4" for my spinny halyard...great stuff and very light. I stripped the cover off & buried its end for the section from sail head to just before the halyard cleat...to reduce windage/weight.

I'd like to have Flightline line in 3/16" for this use...does anyone know if it's available or planned to be?

Mike.
