nacra 18 inter
If you are a fair sailor it will sail pretty good against the new boats. Seems to be better in flat water, so if you sail lakes it should be okay.
There are some caveats to think about. I think that all the Inter-18s came with carbon masts. They were allowed to be grandfather in until some time that I do not remember. If you are just racing against your buddies then you can get away with it. If you are planning on really campaigning it and sailing the big events you should see if it is a legal boat.
It was one of the first Formula 18s and as you can imagine there has been changes in theory and design than when that boat came out so there should be a bit of an advantage in the newer boats. I will bet that an Inter-18 going the right way will beat a Capricorn going the wrong way, most of the time.

In our fleet, the Inter 18 (with aluminum mast) has won against the newer boats (we have not seen the Capricorn) in some conditions. I think it is a capable boat for racing Formula 18. Like all the F18 designs, the best sailor seems to be able to win on any design that has come to our fleet. The rules seem to be driving the boat designs to be very similar in overall capability, some favoring upwind, others downwind, some being good in straight-line speed, others being good at tacking. etc. In the end, the boat should reflect the skipper and their ability to tune the boat. The gains available by buying the latest design seems to be a much smaller factor. The Inter 18 was very successful when it came out and the improvements since then don't seem to be a deciding factor in the success of skippers. In our club, most every year/design seems to win at some time or other.
