Proposed North A merican F18 Class Rule changes
A request has been made to change the North American F18 Class Rules regarding the jib batten requirements to match the International F18 Association Class Rules and provide an alternate location of the NAF-18 sticker. The request is to make the changes to the NAF-18 class rules prior to the North Americans in September. I need to know your opinion for or against the changes as soon as possible (8 AM EDT July 31) .
The NAF18 class rule is as follows:
B4.2.4
The maximum number jib battens will be 4. The battens and/or the batten pockets length shall not exceed a distance of 250 mm normal from the leech. The batten pockets shall be parallel to the luff (+- 5 degrees) with a maximum inside length of 300 mm.
The jibs measured, marked and appearing on the measurement certificate prior to 1st December 2001 remain permitted until 1st March 2003.
The International Formula F18 Association Class Rule reads as follows:
4.2.4 The maximum number of jib battens will be 4. The battens and/or the batten pockets length shall not exceed a distance of 250 mm normal from the leech.

Please note that NAF18 class rules require the battens be parallel to the luff +- 5 degrees and International rules do not have this requirement.

The second request to have an alternate location for NAF18 class sticker. The rule currently reads:
3 Marking (b.5),
a. sails may be marked with class stamp (marking sails (B.5.1.1)
b. NAF-18 stickers are required port/starboard below rear beam, IHC sticker from manufactures on rear starboard transom (B 5.3 Identification)

If you have any questions please reply to this post or PM me. Keep in mind only members in good standing will be considered.

So can't you put the NAF-18 stickers on the INSIDE of the hulls?
At first glance I'd say why not. But, that is the location the International F-18 Class correctorweight sticker.
Stickers and more stickers.
I know... why can't you stack them? That could be an option too.
I'd like to see the NAF-18 sticker requirement either go away or be further clarified. What a silly thing to be protested over.
