Any thoughts on repairing a Tiger batten?
There was delamination inside the surface layer which I fixed with polyester resin. I thought that a few wraps of fine f'glass cloth over a break in one side of the outer (white layer) would do the trick but apparently not.

It's a 2002 and it's the 4th batten from the bottom about 4" in from the mast side.

I tried that, buy a new one...check with your local Hobie dealer, the H20 battens will work on the Tiger.

I cut them down for the next size batten and buy a new one. I have many more that fit the top than the bottom though. Sometimes they will change weights if you check them on a scale. You like to have pretty balanced battens and I doubt that repairing one will come out the same as what it was.

If you're going to wrap some tape around it take a little material off the sides first so your don't end up with s

stiff spot

. You need to remove about 4x the thickness of the added cloth off each side of the batten. Having said that I've always used the same system as Dan.

polyester resin couldn't stick dog 'do' to a blanket!

use epoxy next time it may just do the trick itself if delam is the only damage

Wow! Just checked it out and the dealer in Toronto Canada. You cannot buy Tiger battens individually, only by the set. So the choice is as kennyb said to get a H20 and cut it down to size.

That batten is 50. Canadian dollars.

http://www.fiberfoam.net/

I would suggest there is a fiberfoam dealer some where near you, give them an email and have one shipped.

obviously your hobie dealer is a tool.
