Tiger spi uphaul cinch cleat

Not sure of the exact name of it, but on my Tiger (2002 model) the spi rope passes through a cleat (up haul cleat) on the forward crossbar which is a piece of SS with a V cut in it. This is a pain when trying to douse the spi as the rope keeps catching on it. No doubt someone has a cure for this issue. I was thinking of some kind of eye or block that I could slip the rope into that would keep it from snagging on the cleat when dousing. Any suggestions/thoughts?

It sounds like what you're describing is a 'clamcleat'. Is this cleat holding tension on the halyard when the sail is up?

On our 2002 Nacra f18 the camcleat is on the forward beam as well, to prevent the clam catching the spi-halyard during a douse we have a shockcord from the boom with a shackle attached to spi-halyard behind the cleat. The shockcord basically pulls the halyard up so it cannot be catched by the cleat. With tension on the halyard (if the spi is up) the shockcord is not effective and the halyard stays in the cleat

Does this make sense?

Are you saying that the shockcord keeps the halyard from slipping into the clamcleat when you are dousing? Sounds like a good idea. I will look at mine to see if appropo. Thanks!

If you're using the cleat on the beam, what I did on my FXone was remove the eyelet over the top of the jaws. When I was dousing I would just pull the halyard out of the jaws and off to one side and it would rarely re-cleat itself. I tried a bungee to rotate the cleat out of the way as well, but didn't really care for it that much.
