Why did they have two discards and what happened in the first race?

Hi Sam,
Not sure what you mean by different rules. As I understand it in the UK we sail under the standard class rules as posted at www.f18-international.org web site; but I can't see anything about discards.
Sorry, wasn't at event, so don't know about the first race...

I was there sailing a spitfire on the same course.
Gavin Colby was leading the first race and pulled out as he approached the finish. Someone said that he realised that he had not carried the correct weights and retired. The wind died as the first boats finished and that is why so many were out of time and did not get a finish.
