im acutally an unofficial member of the panama city beach cat club, or so i think. i get the newsletter, and i ve talked to the director several times. since the beginning of summer ive tried to get into races, but just never manage to. im only 16, and i think that my age is holding me back a bit. id really appreciate if you could suggest some clubs in my area, thatd be great help. hope to talk with you again, sail.--
Hi Ven

they have numerous Nat,l Championship races held there also besides local club racing
Which Formula 20 are you referring to, the european Formula 20 or the U.S.(Carl) Open Formula 20?
There is no U.S.(Carl) Open Formula 20 racing anywhere.
The Hobie Fox is the only boat in the U.S. which meets the European Formula 20 specs.
The U.S. Inter 20 has been modified from the EU Inter 20(which meets F20 specs), with a taller mast and bigger sails.
There are many Inter 20s racing in many places.
The Nacra 6.0NA with spinnaker has comparable performance and there are many of them around also.
They are holding the Performance and NAF 18 North American Championships at Key Sailng in Pensacola Beach, Oct 13 -16.
They are expecting 10 Inter 20s and 7 N6.0s as well as 27 F18s, 8 Inter 17Rs, 3 Nacra 5.5s and Prindles.
I expect boats to begin arriving on Saturday Oct. 11 and possibly practicing on Sunday Oct. 12.
You could get a good look at the boats and maybe a ride on one.
You didn't say what your weight was, but you may want to consider an F18.
The Class is growing strong and there are several models available from different manufacturers.
There are racing groups of 20s --as in F-20S THOUGH VERY INFORMAL which is the way it should get started and is the basic relaxed ,friendly history of beach cats ,
As posted there is an active group that races 20s in the NE area , and have recieved info on other informal racing groups of 20s -
The sport needs all the positive aspects of racing it can get ,--inc informal racing groups --
Any can start or form one ,
Outlined are an informal basic list of specs that may serve as a basis for the 20 class -
F-18 is catching on as numbers indicate -
seems Formula classes in all length categories are the future of the sport .
Many prefer to race as a part of a large class - as Formula classes will provide eventually as they grow in number.
