Thanks for the accolades.

One clarification - Past ranked #1 Melges, currently #10 ( We missed a couple of events lately...)

Any suggestions on the F20 website will be appreciated.

The Dennis Conner question - - > it says masts, does that mean that I can have 2? while I went there, can I have 3 hulls?

Hi Marc

Think the standard answer will be -

Please reread mission and intent of rules again carefully along with amendments.

We can change from the plural.

Sounds like you just volunteered to be on the rules committee ,

send an e when you can and help us get more organized.

.

One good thing about these simple rules with the basic box measurements defined is that it is self limiting for practical reasons ,--there is not much left to be modified that all could easily also do.

If there was some way to use 2 masts {interpreted} as on the tri foiler with its 25 ft beam on an 8.5 ft beam platform without them backwinding each other ,-great . It would be very slow . Similarly if any could build a 8.5 beam tri without bow waves colliding into the center hull , great but very very slow .

Practicality and accepted standards, along with mission and intent plus ammendment of rules at the ready will fend off the sea lawyer types ,hopefully.

There is the 18 sq and C Class cats designs more open to innovation for the experimental types , and more ridgid limited rules of N A F-18 class for those wanting more control by specific builders and sail makers ,--we are somewhere in between flexable enough to allow numerous types of existing 20s in N A to join in .

Hopefully as a h p 20 is more activly developed and promoted we will define a catagory one and 2 classification for 20s and expand the class further as the A Class has done, The existing T Sport with its 10 ft beam may fit into that catagory and be similar, just one posibility , looking into the future .

You might want to consider a name change or at least an addition to the name that would set you appart from the iF20 class in EU that is very often now refered to as F20.

It would save us alot of confusion and it is the friendly thing to do to your brother class the F20.

Thank you,

I made a poor attempt to stir up conversation on the different configurations possible within the stated rules. I also apologize for my slur against Mr. Connor. I would be happy to be on the rules committee or anything that brings Formula 20 sailing to Texas. Thanks in advance for everones understanding of my open mouth insert foot policy that I seem to live by.

Hi Wout

Think your right ,-NA -F 20 may be more appropriate .

Same basics of length and beam but N A sail area and we have a lighter weight classification in accord with existing active racing cat designs in existance ,with minor differences in specs from there , The rules committee will add specs and additional rules definitions as needed, realize they are abbrieviated for now, many would like some innovation and development over time in the class. Think that is key .

Have a number of questions for you having done much of the contact and set up work for the F-16 ,--great job on it , congrates again on getting it established .

One key in getting Formula classes going will be recognizing the need for the economic aspect to work with good boats ,boat dealer support , and events, getting excellent existing and new designs of catamarans their builders and dealers active with race and event organizers . Rick at Catsailor is also fantastic in this regard.

Questions -Any unexpected problems with set up

-Getting established with ISAF , is that difficult

-Any other recomendations you may have based on your experiences with the F-16

Thanks

Carl

Hey Marc

You have great racing in Texas , Corpus Cristy and the Padre Islands area are some of my favorite places I,ve sailed over the years .

Just joking along with you earlier , the written word always seems to be easily mis interpreted having no voice tone or human qualities .

Hope the 20 class is fun and provides great racing , we are all beach cat sailors , it's always been about having fun , great sailing and a beer on the beach afterward ,--very informal , hope that is the spirit of the class. It is a catsailors class, It is up to all of us to make it a great one .

Fortunately most all cat builders make a 16 18 and 20 ft cats , getting support for all Formula racing should work well over time .

NA-F20 sounds good. Especially when the rules are ssuch that every F20 (EU) design will automatically comply with NAF20 rules.

Well the F16 was alot of work in the beginning but differences are increasingly being ironed out and The EU and Australian start-ups are increasingly well.

I'm happy to answer your questions, but is it okay if we talk over the phone. I can tell you more in a shorter time frame. I'm a little bit pressed for time.

My phone number is in your Catsailors forum inbox.
