Hello Everyone,

I am new to the forum. I have owned a couple of older hobie 16s over the years and am now thinking about buying a Hobie 18 or 20. My question is which should I buy. I am not an advanced sailor, but not a total newbee either. Can I handle the miracle 20 or should I stick to the 18. I have the opportunity to buy a 1992 miracle 20 in good shape for $2,000. Is this a good price? I plan on doing a mixture of Lake, Delta, and Ocean sailing as I live in Sacramento (Northern CA).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Reinfeld

Yes. I loved my H-20, it was very fast and very predictable, no suprises in heavy weather.

Ahh hemm, I happen to have a new mainsail for sale if you need one.

LOL! Is there much difference in sailing the 20 and the 16? Will I be able to solo a 20? Do you think $2,000 is good for a 1992 Hobie 20?

Thanks for your adivce, it is much appreciated.

Sounds like a good price, depending on the condition of course. Are you getting a trailer, wheels, box, and other gear as well?

Many have sailed this boat solo but as with any cat designed for two, it will be a handful when the wind picks up. Many H-20 are rigged with furlers for the jib which is helpful.
HAving never sailed a 16, I can't make the comparison but there are more controls on the H-20, and daggerboards.

Thanks for the feedback Eric,

The boat is in good shape and comes with a furling jib, trailor, harnesses, ect. I am going to take a look at it on Thursday and possible buy it.

I purchased this boat last Friday! It was a heck of a deal and he took 1800 for it. I'm moving from a Hobie 18 to this Hobie 20... If your still interested in an 18 let me know. Mine is now for sale and I'm not to far from Sacramento! 🙂 The trailer on this 20 needs some love but it can be fixed with a little work.

Hobie Fleet 20 will be at Woodward (by Oakdale) this weekend just incase you wanted to come.

I would love to find a H-20 down here for that price. I sold my previous H20 (no crew and son too little) and now wish I still had it. Of course my son is now taller than me and my Stiletto is not fast enough for him, well in light winds its not! In a blow, like any other boat its a handfull.

Anyone down near the Gulf Coast have something?

You stole that H20 at that price. I may have a buyer for your TheMightyHobie18. Send me a "private message" if you still have it.

Well to end this story I thougt I would post one last picture. The boat sailed great and is a lot more of a challange than the 18 I had and should have a lot to teach me. The picture is of my twins boat and my new one... Go figure. Twin boats!
