WOW -av 20 mph -Hogsbreath J C & kENNY -congrates
Texel 2004 when the broke the round record by no less then 20 minutes. The old record stood at 2:29:something I believe. The new one was under 2 hour and 10 minutes.
The round is said to be about 80- 85 km long = about 50 - 53 (land) miles.
But a great achievement by J.C. and Kenny just the same.

I think that the Hogsbreath record is about 5 hrs and 11 minutes by Matt Struble and Wf Oliver on a Tornado.
As far as long distance record, during the early 1990's a Stilletto 23 sailed in the "Low Rent Regatta" which is a 23 nautical mile+ race. The S-23 finished in 1hour and 2 minutes, so they averaged about 22knts?? The winds in that race were so high that most of the participants on hand for the Nacra Nationals, including high wind expert Chris Christenson (sp) choose to stay off the trapeze in order to stay on the boat in the Chesapeake Bay Chop.
Just some quick math.
The Low Rent Regatta was 23 NAUTICAL MILES or 26.83 statute miles (regular mile)long, so the Stilleto 23 averaged 26.75 miles per hour around the course.
The Miami to Key Largo race is 42 regular miles long and at 1h45mins, the average speed was 24 mph.
So the old S-23 seems to hold the closed course record, unless someone knows of a faster race record??/
