Roberto Casadei won last sunday the 2007 Italian A class cat Championship attended by 63 concurrents from all over Europe. Teo di Battista was third.
Both of them sailed a BIMARE XJ. They are known to many US A catters since they participated to the A-Cat Midwinters held last January in Florida. Unfortunately none of them is registered to the Worlds.

But when we go to the results by following the supplied link, we find

(only) 32 boats :

22 from Italy
4 from Germany
3 from France
2 from Switzerland
1 from Spain

Not a single big name in the list of foreign sailors. In the Italian camp; maybe Valerio Pertrucci, Casadei and Di Batista; none of these being really big internationally.

It is a big step from 32 boats to 63; don't you think ?

It is just a plain local championship. Certainly nothing to be ashamed about, but most definately a different event then one would think when reading the words :"Italian A class cat Championship attended by 63 concurrents from all over Europe.

Sorry mate, you did it again !

I dont think the results page is complete.
Some got 47 points on a race which is not possible with 32 competitors.

If you add up finisher #28, Rossi Marco Stefano, to get to 156 points with the drop, then the OCS is worth 64. So Catfan is correct.

Wouter

have a look at the Italian A class web site (www.classeaitalia.com)
You'll find easily this statement in Italian:

Classe A Italia News
17/09/2007 Campionato Italiano 2007: vince Gegè Casadei

Classifica

Then have it translated in yr language

Sorry mate, you are wrong again

I didn't know that there has been another outbreak of

foot in mouth

up North, it sounds serious.

I just spoke to a friend of mine who was at the Italian nationals, aparently the conditions were light and very shifty which explains why some of the bigger names were a little too far down the list.
I have not sailed in a single event with consistant decent breeze this year, there is one more regatta here this season, I hope it blows a hooligan so that the season ends on a wet contented high note.

Don't ever come to Singapore if you want consistent breeze! <img src=

alt=

/> Spend most of my time heading towards the nearest forming thunderhead, and then when it gets a bit dark getting away as fast as possible.

In between monsoons at the moment. Bring on NE monsoon and Dec. The next 3 months after Dec see the best breeze. Rest of the year a lottery.

Must have been light and shifty then. Find that the top A guys still go well in the light stuff as they seem to power the boat bit quicker than the others which makes a huge difference.

63 boats a great turnout.

OT. Very nice picture of you in the other thread and the breeze looks pleasant enough, my first thought was that you were in the english channel sailing towards the cliffs of dover, that skyline is unreal.

That is near Changi Airport and the buildings are HDB flats. Government built flats for the masses.

Water a lot warmer than the English Channel. About 24 degrees or so.

I stand corrected with respect to the total number of participants and boats.

63 boats.

43 from Italy + 1 Sam Marino
6 from Germany
8 from France + 1 from Monaco
4 from Switzerland
1 from Spain

In the remaining listing there were no internationally known name as far as I can tell.
