Looks like a good race and I know they have had great winds the last 3 years. Sunny, 12-14 knots and a 26 mile steelechase course (shortened for the smaller boats).Sponsors provide a great cookout late afternoon with cold adult beverages, racing hats and trophies. You can be back on the road home by 5pm or earlier if you prefer. Or all sailors are welcome to make a weekend of it and leave your boat at the protected club and pleasure sail on Sunday. Curious as to who might be attending?

A 100 mile race in the FL keys. Takes you through some chanels, flats, mangroves, currents, some wind, no wind situations, marks, bouys and boats.

It aint no walk in the park distance race. I have never done it yet.

Robizzle,
I know what the steeplechase race is, but the NOR says this is a steeplechase distance race.

That is a generic term for a race that uses fixed Government marks as the turning marks to facilitate all points of sail, and that has it's finish at the same place as the start.

I've done that one on the 4.3 - great trip around the bay. Highly recommended.

PTP:

Do you want a green crew? Daughters boyfriend is coming with me and grand daughter to get and sail or Mystere 4.3. He weights 150 is very athletic, but knows nothing of sailing.

Yeah, I found crew, but thanks for the offers. It ought to be interesting... It seems as though the sea breeze may be the only breeze to speak of.
BTW, this may be a subject of a diff thread, but what happens with Sea Breezes when there is a barrier island? I assume the wind is a little lighter in the protected waters as it is a little

confused

p.s. Pete, just get in the car and drive, its all good <img src=

Eric,
It does seem like the wind has been pretty good this year. As far as crew, I am always looking for anyone who is interested in sailing to take my boat out. Seems that crew generally don't like the 6.0 though! Are you going to race your 16 at the great bay?

just started sailing it last year, and haven't raced yet, but I would like to give it a try, so I may go ahead at try this one, would definitely like to shoot for the around the island this year if I can afford to pick up an 18 or somthing before september

the RTI can be a bear on a H16. I even decided I wouldn't do it again without a spin on the 6.0. My schedule is jacked up these days, but I would be happy to take you out on the 6.0 sometime- maybe after the great bay if we're not all too burnt out.

The seabreeze is a pretty large system that usually can extend out up to a mile or more on the water. Compared to the barrier islands, the seabreeze system is considerably larger usually sees little affect from the barrier island itself.

Pete:

You missed a NICE race!! We had a balm and wind was blowing !!! I didn't race my boat, bit Ashleigh and I got to race with a local on a 18 SE. I got to meet Bob Curry, that was exciting.. I think we are going to me move the Fort Walton area when I get out of school next year. I LOVE the area.

Lets just leave the results out of the discussion please!
Greeat time, met really good people. Doug, that Mystere is a blast and was really fun.. seems like it has a speed break though. As soon as that chute powers up down goes the leeward hull to the beam. Then stops dead and everyone gets a nice splash.
p.s. someone HAS to be DFL <img src=
