Anyone know how to SETUP A TRAC 14 Cat ? ? ?

The Trac 14 is the American manufactured (and almost identical) version of the Windrush 14, built in Western Australia. The Windrush 14 is still actively sailed and raced in Australia, so you will get better information by searching for "Windrush 14", rather than searching for "Trac 14".

Raising the mast is covered in the manual and is relatively straightforward for a 14ft catamaran:

1. Check for power lines.
2. Make sure that nobody will try to "catch" the mast if it falls.
3. Untangle the shrouds and halyards before you start raising the mast.
4. Lay the mast out forward of the front beam.
5. Hook the front shrouds on.
6. The strongest person should walk the mast up while the other person holds the base and puts it in place when possible. Make sure you don't get the shrouds hooked under the hulls.
7. Hook on the rear shrouds when the mast is upright (while still holding the mast!).

You can also do this the other way (ie. raise the mast from the rear).

Before you put up the mast you should:

• Check that the mast is sealed (search the forum for more info). It is usually impossible to raise a turtled catamaran without outside assistance when the mast is heavy with water.
• Check that the shrouds are in good order.

The Windrush/Trac is a great boat and with new sails and tramp, it sounds like you got a bargain. Have fun!

Another way I've been told is to set the mast on the ground and standit up near the front crossbeam. attach all the rigging then push the mast straight up and pop it in place- have done it with a Hobie 14. Have fun be safe!

Those Trac/Windrush 14s are really nice boats, too... good score.

A couple of years ago, I got a Trac 14 for a case of Heinneken! The steering system was broken, but a system from a Hobie 14 fits and works perfectly!!

It was pretty simple to set up and we kept it at the river until Isabel took it away. we completely took it apart each time to store it and two people could put it back together in 20 minutes. The only thing I can really add is to use some kind of big wrench on the knobs that attach the beams to the hulls and to keep tightening them after each sail.
