Well, they got it half right. The full sentence is
The 72-footers will be used in the America’s Cup itself, replacing the plodding sloops that were used from 1992 to 2007.
Hello? Weren't those boats faster than the monohulls from the prior 100+ years of the event???
They should have just ended the sentence after the word
sloops
...
