[#12112]

Hi Folks,
We are having a regatta in on July 12-13 up in Ontario Canada, and need some art work for the t-shirts and web site. Just a simple line drawing of a cat flying a hull or something. Does anyone have anything? We don't have a lot of money, but we can give you credit, a link etc.

Thanks,
David

I think this should work - made by Jake for the superlong ARC/jargon thread... It would be humorous to the engineers at least!

and you could call it something like "The Scientific Definition of Fun". That would be good!

I own a graphics company and if you think that's t-shirt worthy enough I'll be glad to work you up some RTG (ready to go) art based on that sketch for free. (especially since it's mostly done!). This needs to have some formulas added, the shading removed, and maybe some blue in the text (2 color shirt). Let me know what you think.

I can't make it, but I'd buy a couple of those shirts to help support the regatta...I've got a couple of engineer friends who are always trying to define a good time.

Hi Jake, I am the organizer for the 'Round The Bay Race near Toledo, Ohio and I am impressed with your work. May I use it to do T-shirts next year? I would be inclined to send you a couple if we can and do.

Howdy Jake,
Kudos on the cool artwork.

While it's great to show the vector forces concerning heeling moment and righting moment, it doesn't really tell how these generate forward motion. How 'bout a 3d version that also shows how the force vector from the sail(s) interacts with the hydrodynamic lift from the hulls/foils to produce forward thrust? This might make for a real "busy" diagram, but I just thought I'd throw the idea out.

Just a minor point. The 2d version doesn't show the upward force vector due to bouyancy.

Keep up the great work,
David Ho

I knew someone was going to get me for that - it was getting too crowded so I left that stuff out. Ideally everything should be a function of the angle of heal of the boat instead of the two sigma angles of the individual forces too. I hope to make this one the first of a series of different drawings.

Nice job Jake. Sounds to me like you've already got a lock on the next two year's t-shirts. i.e. 3-D, has X, Y, & Z planes. Maybe the fourth year you could do a composite! Great idea. People would come back just to complete their matched set of regatta t-shirts.

Jake could also make a generic version. That is, one that isn't tied to any event, but promotes cat sailing in general. I'd buy one if I wasn't so broke lately .
