Automatic Mast Rotation, ARC21
What is the theory and control of the Arc21 mast rotation? I am trying to understand how I can limit mast rotation in light to moserate breeze. I feel that the mast is rotating well past 90 deg and ahead of the apparaent wind and not providing an efficient entry to the wind.
There are several holes(positions) where the main blocks can be hung from the foot of the sail but with that exception no other apparent way to control rotation. Any thoughts on this?
That's not a boomless rig is it?
You can tighten the rigging more which will tend to reduce the rotation. You can also attach the mainsheet farther forward on the boom to reduce the sheeting angle force that's pushing the mast forward. However, you're going to have a difficult time achieving anything reliable this way. You may consider adding a rotation limiter bar to the mast and control lines / hardware on the boom.

Ok, since my first 1980 SC20 to my current ARC22 I have applied the following:
If in light air I use the farthest back.
If in medium air I use ones in the middle
If in heavy air I use the forward one.
It generally has to do with how much draft/flat the main sail can be adjusted along with the down haul.
The SC20 has a boom with a slot in the end to accomodate the adjustments of the mainsail plate that slides into it or an attachment that adapts as well as a barber hauler system.
The system I like best was my 1973 Tornado (US498) which had both 6:1 outhaul and downhaul mounted plus a barber hauler system on the boom. But thats a different boat.
