In the open class results, the 1st and 5th (overall) place boats, both received 7th in the 5th race. 8th place also seems to be missing in the 5th race... Is this correct? I'm relatively new to open class racing, so I don't know what is done with the calculations/results behind the scenes.

Thanks for your time in doing the results... Thanks to all the other volunteers on the chase boats, committee, dinner, and the Bergstedt's for the use of their home. It was fun, well worth the 8hr drive.

Hi Bob

Thanks, I did not get much chance to socialize this weekend given the scoring duties. The answer to your question is the following: Yourself and Jim Boyer on the Taipan had identical corrected times for the race. The Sailwave program implements the ISAF rule and awards both of you 7th place points. There is no 8th place.

I will get the full printout of each race to Patrick tonight for the CRAC web page You will then be able to see the corrected times for each race in order. Several places were decided by seconds.

Congratualations on your strong performance. Obviously the spin launch and retrevial were not issues on your boat. Would you care to offer an opinion about the two systems. I am personally dreading training crew to bag launch and retrieve the chute on my Tsport for Gunpowder.

Take care. I can send you the sailwave file if you would like.

Mark, can you give me the elapsed times and a short describtion of the conditions air and watersurface ?

Nicely lifted will be perfect but you can give me the raw data and I will sort it out myself.

It will much appreciated.

Thanks Mark, and nice racing also, the Dart was a reality check.

I’m probably not the best person to provide an opinion about bag vs. snuffer as I’m biased. Many people try to “rib” me about my Tiger not having a snuffer. I simply respond, “I would never insult my crew with a snuffer”. 🙂

I’m very lucky, as Stephanie and I have been sailing together for years. We’re still learning better ways of setting and dowsing. Compared to the snuffer, there is a steeper learning curve with the bag; the crew needs to have a “can do” attitude.

To get right to the point, we feel that the bag/poll takes more skill and teamwork than the snuffer. We think it’s best to put our time in learning and becoming proficient with the bag, and if we need to move to snuffer, it will be a walk in the park.

I think if you had equal (seasoned) teams, one with snuffer and the other with the bag, I think the difference in speed (up and down) would be small; however I think the bag has a higher risk for problems to occur.

At this point, I’m not ready and I don’t want to spend the money for snuffer, and were having a good time with the bag as every successful deploy and dowse is a minor victory.

Take care and thanks again,

Bob O

Bob,

I have been using Sailwave in New England for some local races and Division 12 Open class scoring.

I stumbled on this from US Sailing last week:

http://www.ussailing.org/racemgt/Changes_RRS/Appendix_A_Guidance.htm

See section A7.

It says that US Sailing expects the ties to be awarded points based on Averaged points.

(IE 2 boats tied for 7th place would get 7.5 points vs 7)

The sailwave default for ties comes up shared. It has not affected any of my results.

but I did not have any real big fleets to deal with. I have changed my setting over to

averaged.

Scott
