Big News ; Texel rating modifications for 2005 !
Shamelessly I'm going to claim partial credit for the new Texel 2005 rating system.
It has wind adjusted rating numbers now and some awkward things have been taken out of the system.
Both Nico Boon and Geert Ruesink (Current Texel rating committee) have worked out the modifications of the Texel system both on the requests by many sailors and the prelimairy work I did for them in 2002 and 2003. While there are differences between the NMBR and Texel 2005 the similarities are striking.
I personally think that the Texel rating committee has made a significant improvement in fairly rating beach catamarans. The new Texel 2005 system has still all the advantages of the old Texel system and has lost some of its quirks. Also it goes a long way in meeting the demands of sailors the world over. Windadjusted handicaps. Especially the A-cat sailors will be happy with this modification.
For me this is closure on a project I started way back in 2002. My own NMBR system will remain and possibly see some more work on it in the future just to keep everybody on his or her toes. But the biggest succes is getting Texel to adopt some of the mods and provide increased fairness in rating boats of different makes in open class racing.

P.S. this should be a lesson to us all. "Don't complain, organize !"
Wouter
That is classic childish arrogance from weezy.
Why do the inexperienced, the uniformed, always think THEY have invented something just because changes occur around them?
How typically childish to refer to two years ago as "way back in 2002".
Well, WAY BACK in 1985 the Texel Rating was started and the lack of a wind correction has been complained about ever since.
There have been discussions on this website about Texel vs Portsmouth since before woot showed up.
People far more experienced and far more knowledgeable than weeze have been working on improving the Texel Rating every year.
At least they, and others like Darlene, don't run over here and scream "Look at me!".
It reminds of the old TV commercial, about Hamburger Helper I think, where, after the father says how good the meal is,
the little girl says "And I helped", because the mother let her stir the pot.
There is stirring the pot and then there is being the chef.
Darline was happy to see that Texel rating system has now factored wind conditions into its formula. She said, "Certainly the inclusion of high wind ratings is a big change for the Europeans, many of whom have made fun of the North American Portsmouth Yardstick's wind handicaps."
