Boohoo
Well, I was just a little dissapointed with a phone call I had today. I was seriously considering an Inter 17R with a Snuffer...right until I found out how much one would set me back. I was a tad shocked to find that in Canuck Bucks I was going to pay $15,800 for the 17R plus $2,800 for the Snuffer plus 7% tax and shipping...Y'OUCH. I guess I'll sqeeze another season out of my H16 or look for a used 18sq.
I'm truely saddened. I'm sure there is alot of value in the boat, but 20K is a little beyond my sensibilities.
Cheers!
Ye, or go to the ads page and look at Taipan 4.9 with hooter from Rick White ! This boat will beat I-17 and you keep the sailing with a crew option or if you want a new boat consider the BIM 16 EU price is US$6000,-. You can buy and transport one on your own for under US$10.000 and that includes genaker package (no snuffer though)
Or consider keeping your H16 for crew sailing and get a secondhand A-cat there is one in the adds too. A-cats should be more than US10.000 when new too. Secondhand will come lower.

If you want an I-17 R, Rick Bliss at New England Catamarans has a Nationals charter boat for sail. You would have to do the import paperwork. His email is:
nacra138@mediaone.net
Depending on where you live you could probably figure out how to get it back fairly easily.

How much are you going to sell your H16 for and what kind of shape is it in? The new H16 web site will be up and running soon and we will have a section on H16's for sale. Email (info@sail-s.cim) me or respond on this forum. I would think a T4.9 or an A Class cat would be the way to go instead of buying a heavy 17 foot cat (weighs more than you H16).
I'm not sure about the sale price of the 16. I was actually considering keeping it for the rest of the family to sail because, though the boat is 25 years old, it's still an 8/10 as it's never been trailered, has spent it's summers on a hoist and it's winters in a covered shed. The sails have always sat in a bag and the boat doesn't sit on the beach but gets anchored with the mainsheet unhooked so it can weathervane around. I love sailing with it, but I want something a little more hot-rodded up is all.
Thanks for all the links and such for the 17R as well as suggestions for other boats. I'm not sure I'll be able to stomach importing a boat as long as the Canuck Buck exchange is so crummy. Even the used boats listed with snuffers would cost me 18K plus 7% and a trip to go and get them. Oh well...BooHoo. Good thing I love my Hobbie.
