Canadian looking for hull repair info.
I'm looking for info on a precise hull repair to be performed this winter on a friend cat. His Mystere 6.0 hulls are delaminated from the daggerboard's wells jackets (the tube linking top and bottom of the hull).
Considering the extend of the damage, I see no alternative but to remove the hulls'caps in the section between forward and aft beams.
My problem is that I wish to pick the brains of people that experienced removing hull's caps before to avoid pitfalls.
Would any of you have some advice or could point me toward someone to advice me in this perious operation?

I wouldn't take the whole deck off. I'd just cutout around the daggerboard sleve on both the top and bottom.
The tricky part will be getting it to set after you finish the repairs.
I just finished repairing a dry layup spot on my H17. We ended up supporting the deck from underneath with some laminated hardwood that we screwed into the deck while it set. You could try the same thing. Pictures should be coming soon.
I might need some more info but when you say delamination do mean the hull is slightly leaking at the joint or has the whole board well come loose from the top and bottom? If it's just leaking I would try using 3M's 5200 to seal around the trunk hull-deck joint. He might need to use a putty knife to get it in there. If your not familar with 5200, it's quite the adhiesive. The repair would be permanent. I would not cut into the deck as was suggested above. Has the owner contacted Mystere and talked to them about it? They might have a better idea.

I am not experiences with that type of repair but I do have a few suggestions for you:
Please try to contact Mystere catamaran to see if they can have replacement decks available.
I was told that when you remove the decks, there is a good chance that they will break and that they will no longer be useable, that is why I suggest to see if they can be purchased.
It also means that you have to proceed with caution. Mystere catamaran should be able to inform you of the type of glue used to install the decks, you might be able to get the proper solvent to remove the glue and the decks.
Finally, it was suggested to me to laminate one or two layer of fiberglass mat on (under) the decks to strenghten them. Of course, you have to install the fiberglass so that it will be inside the hull once the decks are installed.
Good luck on your repair.
BTW, if the hull is not too old, you should contact Mystere to see if it can be considered as a manufacturing defect. We heard on this web board that Mystere did repaired a few boats that were out of warranty so they might be able to help you in a more direct way

I have some experience in taking a deck off, first you have to find a thin metal plate about 1.5 inch wide and push it between the hull and the deck.
Second use a Tiny hammer to push the blade around, if I am correct the deck is “glued” to the hull with polyester or epoxy, if you do this with care the deck will come of in one piece.
Third, you have to repair the Dagger board sleeve, be sure you use the same material as the Hull is made of when made of polyester use polyester when made of Epoxy use epoxy this is very important because you cannot mix epoxy and polyester.
I suggest you buy the Polyester or Epoxy from a local shipyard do not buy a repair package this will cost you a fortune, the same goes for Gel-coat the benefit of buying Gel-coat from a shipyard is that in most cases the Gel-coat is mixed right and you only have to add Hardener to speed up the drying.
In addition, you can always ask them for tips. (Make sure you go to a place where they have nothing to do with cats, this way they will help you and they will not see you as a potential competitor.)
All the above helped me a lot in the past.
We are currently doing the same with a damaged A-Cat.
Good Luck
Thanks for the reply.
The delam is quite important. Most of both the bottom joints are affected. The filler approach have been done in the past witch resulted in further delam.
I do understand that my approach is quite radical but I see no other alternative to insure a permanant bond. I need to remove debrits and old filler between the hull and well.
I will contact Mystere to get their advice on this and look for 3M 5200.
Thanks.
