interesting story off S B -

Thought the cat carbon mast builder's would be interested
in this C F -
the engineering and cost of this 1.6 meter cord depth huge mast is amazing-

Hope we see more inexpensive versions available for cats ,

I wonder if the 5 tons of cables and sensors installed in the mast off-sets any weight saved by using carbon instead of aluminum.

With a cross-section that huge, they could even have an internal ladder for going aloft.

Can they make an aluminum mast that large?

If you remember the Team Philips masts, they were equipped with an internal ladder.

IT IS TWICE AS LONG AS THE PLAYSTATION MAST!!!!!

Pity that this extraordinary piece of technology is going to be wasted on a monohull instead of shinning on a multihull… but seriously, I do not think that a multihull could be made reliable at that length. I fear that the current maxi-giant-mono-hull might even start to get back to the level of performance of the fastest multihulls! As they will grow larger and larger.
