[#14855]

Hello. I bought an 18' Prindle last summer and have had a blast. Can't wait for a little warmer weather around here. Anyway, I'd like to try my hand on a cat in the ocean. Padre Island is the closest spot for us, but I haven't been able to pull up any sites that rent catamarans at Padre. Has anyone rented a cat at Padre?

Okay, how many posts do I have to have to get rid of the "stranger" title?

Click on the "FAQ" at the top of this page, and not too far down the list is "What are these titles about?" It tells you how many posts for what titles. In your case, you will be a "Stranger" until you get over 25 posts, and then you will become a "Newbie."

Hey, I didn't invent this program.

c'mon down to the Houston/Galveston area - closer than Padre. We have a couple of good venues for ocean sailing - Bermuda Beach on Galveston Island (surf launch), and the Texas City Dike which offers easy access to the Gulf via the Galveston channel without having to launch into the surf.

If you are headed this way when the weather warms up then check out http://texascitydike.com where a bunch of Houston/Galveston sailors hang out when they aren't at the beach.

There are no rentals on Padre (as of last year), there is a race around the Island on Sept, 3rd this year (lots of fun). or as Chris says come visit Galveston, the water is not as prety however someone here should be willing to get you on a boat. you might even get someone to rent it to you for a week.

We usually sleep at the BackofThevan Inn. right on the beach, but in Galveston there are many beach front Hotels with a better shower and potty. Texas City has some inns of the normal kind not to senic.

For those who shun the luxury of the BackofThevan Inn, there is also the Tramp Motel, also with excellent views of the beach and stars. A good compromise is the FifteenDollarTent Suites - whose roof leaks less than the Tramp Motel.

those sound fine for me however the rest of the team requires hotel accomidations and a door whitch opens onto the beach.

Why not rent a beach house? We have done this a few times when going to regattas at the coast. Surfside and West Galveston Island are both good options. There is an excellent house at Bermuda Beach called Cat Alley which is sometimes available to rent. Send me a PM if you want details.

Chris.
