Catamaran Demograhics, Continued...
Hi Folks -
Over the last few weeks, I have gotten many e-mails and phone calls from some people I expected to hear from, and also from people in places I hadn't even imagined would have cats - Nevada?? Of course, this shows how much one person's view of our sport can be incomplete, and made the need for some additional information more obvious.
Mary, Rick, and many of the NAHCA Division Chairs have provided a lot of info on individual sailors and their whereabouts, but Mary pointed out that this should at least be checked against fleet-level information. Toward that end, please take a second to drop me an e-mail at johnwilliams@catsailor.com with just a couple of more things. Don't worry about sending duplicate information, and don't assume someone else in your club will take care of it. I have until the US Sailing meeting in March to have all this data mashed into something coherent.
Thanks again - y'all have been a terrific help.
If you belong to a catamaran group, fleet or club:
1. What is the group's name? (e.g., Hobie Fleet 27, Nacra Fleet 5, Sandy Hook Bay Catamaran Club, etc.)
2. Where do you sail the MOST? (body of water, State and nearest town)
3. How many cat sailors are in your group?
4. How many sail regularly?
5. How many race?
Rick and I belong to CABB (Catamaran Association of Biscayne Bay) which is NAMSA Chapter #1, which includes Hobie Fleet 36. It is based in Miami, FL and primarily sails off Rickenbacker Causeway on Biscayne Bay. There are approximately 45 members. The fleet has at least 12 local races a year, and average turnout is about 10-12 boats, all different types of cats, so all racing is done on Portsmouth.
I just did the above post to give you an idea of what John needs informationwise for this important work he is doing for the Multihull Council and for all of us. So I hope you will all either post here or e-mail the information to him about your fleet or club. This pertains to the United States.
Many thanks for all your help.
Thanks for the bump to the top, Mary -
E-mails are rolling in - still need current numbers on CRAM, CRAC, IRCA, Rudder Club, PCCC, Long Beach, San Diego, San Fran, Seattle, Texas... I know you're out there! Web sites appear a bit out of date, especially "crew's nests," which is sometimes a good indicator of fleet size/composition.
John
