checking hulls

I am looking for a way to check hulls before I buy. I was thinking about hooking my air machine (for tires) up to the dranage plugs and using chalk powder to find leaks. Will this work? Any other ways.

Thanks

BE VERY CAREFUL IF YOU DO THAT. You can easily over pressurize the hulls and possibly cause failure. Probably the easiest way is to thump the hulls and listen for the sound it makes. If the hulls are soft, the sound will not resonate clearly. It will be more of a dull thud rather than thump. Also just pressing on the hulls in different locations along the deck will show signs of softness. If you're not sure check a newer boat and compare the sights and sounds. This should be easier than trying to air up the hull. BTW airing it up will only show if it leaks and not if the hulls are sound.

Good luck

Clayton
