[#12938]

If you made a sailing/boating wish list of things you would like for Christmas, what would be on the list, from cheap (like duct tape or telltales) to expensive (like F-28)?

If I can compile a list of the most needed or wanted items, I can publish it every year in the magazine; and if you can get your family and friends to read the list, maybe you will avoid getting a necktie.

without a doubt, The Harken 8:1 Carbo ratchematic mainsheet system; although I don't think I've been quite good enough this year

There's still time to be good, Jake.

I know my own wish list would always include ring pins, shackles of varying sizes, shock cord, and odds and ends of rope. One stocking would handle it all.

Mary,

Like you said Pins, ring dings, and shackles should always be a must. I think that I would like in addition to that a new main and jib sheet lines, McLube, Tel-Tales, and side stay wind indicaters.

Rudder housings with gudgeons that don't break off while you're flying a hull and tear holes in the transom

How about......

2 brand new Marstrom Tornado
2 spare Marstrom masts
1/2 dozen sets of sails.
1 plane trip to Europe for myself and crew.
$100,000
and a boss that will let me spend every Australian winter in Europe.

I don't know if I could ever be that nice

PS can you also throw in a C Class and maybe Play Station. With Play Station I could take myself, crew, 1 of the Marstroms and a team of bikini clad cheer girls over to Europe with me.

Here's my true Christmas story (as of today).

My fabulous, wonderful, caring wife secretly ordered EuroTrax which were delivered today. Unfortunately, I was home when they arrived and her secret was discovered (but unknown to her). Thrilled at my good fortune in having beach wheels and a cat-favorable wife, I noticed that she had ordered knobby tires instead of the smooth tires I need. How bittersweet!! What can I do???

Since my wife did not know they had arrived, I hid the package and secretly called Playaboule and ordered the right tires that they swear will be here this week. I plan to open the main box, swap out the wrong tires for the right ones, then send back the knobbies and put the "adjusted" package on the porch for her to find as a "timely" delivery (when I'm not home). And just in time for our traditional Christmas Day sail! (See attached photo of her Xmas 2000 present..new crew!)

My wife is the best but sometimes even Santa needs a little help.

Merry Christmas to all as we pray for Whirled Peas.

David,

That plan will work just fine until she calls Playboule to figure out where the order is!

Santa is gonna frown on that...trust me I know. Just look above, he put me in the same column with the PWC owners.

How about a nice boat cover?

And a Custom Kokatat drysuit (with relief zipper!)

Or a Magic Marine full harness with the "nutsaver" leg straps?

The list goes on...

I'd like a New Melvin A Cat, A M20, and a beach front house with a nice Sandy beach to park them on, mast up.

Got that Santa?

I would like an F28R.., and almost got one this fall after selling Rick's Place, but I got smart at the last minute and invested the money.
Still, I know my dear, sweet and loving wife might just slip one under the tree on Christmas Eve.

Ah Yes, sailing in the SORC, Key West Week, Columbus Day, the series in Lake Erie, etc., etc., etc.

Then again, I know I have not been very good.
Rick

Mary,
Looks like he started the year off on a good note! Go ahead and get him the boat he wants.

Thanks a LOT, Jack. You're a BIG help.

Besides not being able to afford it, I don't like big boats, I don't like trimarans, and I don't like large, heavy objects following me down the highway. Rick knows all this.

He also wants an airplane (which he also, fortunately, cannot afford). But he knows that I hate to fly.

Do you think he is trying to tell me something?

By the way, (Rick, are you listening?) my Christmas wish list includes a new Hobie Wave -- or at least a new sail (preferably dacron) for my old Wave, since I am going to be racing this year.

I gave my mom a part number out of the APS catalog a few months back. They came to town to visit this past weekend and she brought my Xmas presents since I will not be with them over the holidays.

Package 1: Wool socks... the typical momma present.
Package 2: Harken Carbo 57mil quad block for my mainsheet!

Moms rock!

For any given Christmas I'd like
- Peace on Earth
- Everyone else to get a catamaran for Christmas
- Oh, and 10-15 Kts on boxing day

Happy Christmas

Gary,
If you read the message, you'll see that I didn't mention the word "Eve". The photo was taken at about 12:02AM on New Years Day.
I just wish we were back in Key Largo for New Years Eve this year. We were just talking about the fact that one year ago today we were sailing on Blackwater Sound. At least we've had a mild winter so far up here in Ohio. New Years day is supposed to be a balmy 45 degrees.
