[#17580]

We are looking for an icon to replace the flames. It can be kinetic or static. You can post your entry (or as many entries as you wish) as attachments to posts in this thread. Post them in a decent size but remember that the final size as an icon will be 15x15 pixels, so keep it very simple.

Keep in mind that the icon is supposed to draw attention to that particular post as being of particular interest because of the number of views and/or replies it has gotten.

Prize for the winning entry is a two-year subscription to Catamaran Sailor Magazine for U.S. residents and a one-year subscription for anyone from another country.

Plus, of course, fame and glory!! <img src=

Deadline for entries is two weeks from today, which would be May 26.

Spiders are expressly prohibited. Personally, I kind of like the photo of Chad's pit bull.

How about a simple [Linked Image] red dot - (all the other images are yellow)

I made it in red cause that is what you wanted.

Here is the 15 X 15 Version:

A bit bigger to see what is going on:

Can eliminate the white and use no background color as well.

Later,
Dan

If you made the spin a solid red then that would work quite well Dan.

Can you reverse the the direction the boat sails in. That way, it would move towrads the title of the thread and direct the eye towards the title.

Decided to try it in transparent to see what it would look like:

Seems to lose something in the translation.

Hi Mary,
Sorry to hijack, but I was wondering if Chad and Shirin are still together? If so, would you forward my email (vileine18sq at hotmail) to Shirin?

thanks
tami

Dan, just a thought; is there any way that you can 'speed up' the animation without having to remake the whole gif? It just seems to take a tad too long to complete the sequence..

Mary,
I would much rather a static icon.
My vote would be for a devil with horns and pitchfork all in just red. It would be wicked and hot!
I'll hunt around and see if I can find an example of what I mean.
Regards,
Phill

I'm with you, Phill. Static is my preference, so I don't develop a twitch in my eyes. <img src=

Static...yes. Flames, devils, dancing girls...no. You never really look at the icon, you just sense it's there (or not). How about a red folder or the red dot you suggested earlier?

And LOSE the flames column! If you can't delete the column, I vote for the trigger set at 1,000,000 hits.

Well, it's not a matter of deleting that column altogether -- it is just a matter of leaving the icon that was chosen by the person who started the thread and not allowing it to be preempted automatically by another icon based upon number of views or replies.

Personally, I don't see any reason for having an icon showing lots of views or replies, because this forum is so incredibly active that almost all posts get lots of views and/or replies. And if they don't get replies, they should slide down the list, as per normal. Who cares how many people read something if they don't have any reason to reply to it? And whoever posted it originally always has the option of bumping it back to the top if they want it to keep it out in the light. <img src=

John I could easily make it faster but it seems as though there is not a call for it.

I am going to share the other one in 15 X 15. Looks pretty good but still too much motion for Mary.

It's not my decision to make. I am just expressing my personal preference, as others are.

After all the features of the forum are working correctly for everybody, and after we have all lived with it for a little while, we will probably all have a better idea of what changes we would like to see happen -- sort of like when you move into a new house.

I put the static image of the boat up. What does everyone think? Can you repost that image with a transparent background?

Chad has now fixed it so it takes a million views to activate the flames, but only 30 replies. We'll see how that works for a while, although 30 seems a little low to me. Just depends on how many pyromaniacs we have on the forums. <img src=

Mary:

This is transparent and an added color just to see if you are on board with this one.
