All,

I am looking to invest in a GPS of some sort to assist in long distance racing in the UK, but also would be used in the car.

Budget is really around the £400 mark(maybe £500 at a push)

Requirements

1, GPS

2, usable while sailing (in a water proof bag) so needs to be fairly robust as it will be on the tramp (tied on). With simple to access VMG, course to stear to next way point, tack and Gybe angle.

3, Blue tooth would be nice but not essential

4, UK/EU mapping for the CAR

I am considering

1,Garmin V delux

2,iPAQ h1940/navigator 3 Bluetooth plus Software

But what else is out there that might be suitable. I do worry about having a pocket PC unprotected (from bumps) while sailing hence the Garmin is the Fav at present...

any advise most welcome

Wait about a month or two. Garmin is putting out the GPS 76C and 76CS. They are both COLOR handheld GPS, with 115Meg of memory so that you can download an entire Bluechart disk to them. The CS version also has a compass (works standing stil) and baramoter. The have a submersible rating (1 meter for 30 minutes) however, that rating does not cover rain penetration or water spray so they recommend putting it in a bag anyway. List is $550 or so but Ive seen it at preorder prices of $450 US.
