How far do you have to drive to get to the water? I kept my Nacra 500 on the beach, but I had to drive about 25 minutes to get to it.
The closest lake is 10 min away. Decent beach but I have to go up a narrow channel to get to the main part of the lake. That can get really frustrating. Plus the water is filthy
The lake I typically go to is about 25min away. decent beach, poor parking. Nice round lake. Water is about as gross as the first.
My favorite lake to sail on, (actually the Mississippi river), is about 40 min away. 2miles wide, almost 22 miles long. Lots of leaners to chase down for fun.
The Texas City Dike has brown Gulf of Mexico water, decent wind, great venue, although other non sailing patrons are iffy. I love it here, it is 50 miles from home and takes an hour and a quarter to get there. Surfside offers similar waters, with breakin waves and takes about an hour to get to it. Lot less rifraf on the beach also.
Yea Collin I miss you guys. I am about 1 1/2 hours from good lake. Going to go see Bill Giesler (from Dike back in early 80's) on Lake Palestine when it gets warmer. Hope to make it to Wayward Winds.

.5 miles and it's all down hill.
No driving involved - wheel the boat across my neighbors yard and down the ramp into the bayou - approx 1 minute. At the moment we have 1 cat in my yard, 3 in Tommy's, but Lee (who lives over the bayou) has us beat with 4 cats and 3 ribs.

5 minutes in car. However am moving to a place where it is about 10 15 minutes, but... I have to pay fees, get insurance, not do dumb things and watch out for other boats. Yuk! Upside is that I will get to sail with other humans. Yeah!

The A cat is four minutes away from home on Lake Spokane, a 1/2 mile wide reservior that warms up pretty quickly, and gets good prevailing southwesterlies spring and fall. The F18HT lives on Couer d'Alene Lake, just over the border in ID. Half an hour from work on those windy afternoons that I can break away( although it's one and a quarter hour home at sunset). Flight Risk is on Flathead Lake in NW Montana, and once summer high pressure sets in an kills the local winds for the summer, I head there(a 3 and a half hour drive) every weekend for dependable wind. It's a big, deep mountain lake that generates reliable thermals mornings and at sunset. Gorgeous too!

Now, who knows... maybe 40 minutes?
I live about 2 miles from the gulf of mexico but the drive to the dunedin causeway is about 15 min with boat in tow...

The closest lake is the smallest at 1.5 to being on the water. upside no wake, down side really small very squirralllllieeee. Winds will come at you from 3 different directions at the same time, 3.5 minutes across the lake in a fair breeze. We have 2 other lakes, each 2.5 hours away, one south and one north. The forth choice is the best also (no wake) but is even farther north at 3 - 3.5 hours away.

Nice scenery! Is that a little island you guys hangout on?
45 minutes to primary Hobie sailing beach (Quonset Point).
75 minutes to Newport (race committee work).
Those two take care of 50-75% of the season.
The rest of our time is spent driving 3-6+ hours to points regattas.

There are many islands we hang at.They are spill islands from the dredging of the intercostal.
Island 1 is the biggest and used for larger camping events (like Memorial Day pics below.) There were over 50 tents, turkey frying, live music with PA system and dozens of boats, kayaks, motor boats and a lot of attractive women)... Island 2 is good for a quick beer break too... Island 4 is great for a picnic, or beer break.
Island 8 (Carl’s Island, named for Carl who is buried there with a headstone and plaque) is great for its nice beach, and protection from south winds.
There are also other islands north of us that are worth the sail to... lots of boaters go to 3 Rooker island..
