Has anyone tried to make their own Snuffer setup?
Any leads/tips on how to make one?
What materials are best?
Thanks in advance.

Yeah....see the following link. I have some updates and photos that I'll probably post this weekend. I learned that the pelican striker on a Nacra 6.0NA bridle foil presents some unique problems to a mid pole snuffer.. hmmm. ("load torpedo bay number TWO!").

There're some guys running around the Gulf Coast with a Randy-designed contraption using (no joke) a tennis racquet. Don't have construction details - looks funny (ha ha AND strange) but it seems to be working pretty well.

Any of you other PSTs have any details of how to build that thing?

I am pretty sure that only works on a uni-rig. but it allows you to set and douse from either side.

What problems are you running into with the mid pole snuffer on the 6.0 foil?
Thank for the info.

The chute catches on the pelican striker as I'm trying to snuff it and literally gets wrapped around it. I've tried snuffing dead downwind, reaching, and upwind and it always blows back and catches. I'm considering moving the snuffer hoop out farther from the bridle but would be interested to hear if anyone else has tried a mid-pole snuffer on a 6.0NA. As you can see in this picture, there is quite a bit of stuff behind and above the ring.

Jake, what about using your pelican striker as the snuffer? Instead of making it round, make a triangular feeder with rounded edges that fits inside/around one side of the striker. That would get the bunch of sail in front of the foil.

Oooooooo! I never even came close to considering that....I'm off to the drawing board! The jib tack might lend a clearance issue but I might be able to work around that. Thanks Mike!

I've got another question too....why is it that most snuffer rigs are setup for a port tack takedown yet the hoops are on the port side (the side opposite the spinnaker on a port tack)?

After looking at photos like this, now I'm wondering why I had so much trouble to begin with. The relationship of these bridle wires to the hoop is worse than that of my pelican striker. I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

You mean instead of using a tennis racket, use a pool ball rack?

How big is the chute you are trying to snuff?
The T chute is 25 sq m.... the NE N6.0 is 28 sq meter (i think).... its a huge difference when going into the snuffer and sock.

I've got an Ulman chute that is probably much closer to the NE chute size than the Tornado (it totally eclipses the I20 chute). Can it be done?
