Does Jay really have a boat?

Come on up to the Conquistador Cup!

If you need crew, the skip sold the Stiletto, so I'm a cheap date. Overnight in the water storage is available.
Last year an F24 went endo. A new crew and a jammed spin sheet. Too much fun.
Here ya go.

I am friends with both crew, both experienced inshore sailors, but don't know the owner. I witnessed it from the bow of the Stiletto about 100 yards away..
hmmmmm...so if the crew didn't move their weight forward to try and release the spinnaker, that big 'ol heavy boat wouldn't have pitchpolled? I had to giggle at that... Yep. Crew's fault.
Jay, don't ever let your kids go forward...that boat might pitchpoll. <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" />

duly noted! that pic shows the boat on a really weird position. were they trying to right it at the time? or is the mast stck on the bottom
I don't even know how I'd release the spin
up forward
. the halyard clutch is on the mast, the tack line clutch is on the cabintop near the ****, and the sheet runs to the aft winch. maybe the dude was stuffing the spin on the front beam?
and how much wind were they experiencing at that mark?
I'd been trying to figure out a way to run a dousing line / snuffer type takedown system to avoid that manual spin stuffing ritual... if for no other reason than to collapse the spin quickly to depower it in just those situations (panic takedown in breeze)
all this while cruising past Cape Romano (the houses are almost under water now) Monday. yeah, life's a drag <img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" />
I saw 2 stilettos (maybe 27 ?) right off Caxambas pass with Mariott logos on the sails. Does that hotel rent those? sweet!
if your boat draws less than 3 feet, you should be fine almost everywhere. You can see the bottom = time to turn <img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" />
if you cut in at Big Marco pass, there are two fixed bridges (I think 40+ feet clearance).
with that speed demon, I think the straight shot on the outside route might work best. Cut a left at Romano between the sand bars, keep Gullivan bay marker on your left, and it's a straight shot to Cape Sable.
I guess the strategy call would be to continue directly to Duck Key and run north (ala Steeplechase) or hang a left at Cape Sable and run that route ...?
You going to have a spot transponder or anything I can keep an eye on your progress? It would be nice to watch that thing fly by... while I work on my tan and drinking muscles <img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" />
If a sale is contingent on a sandwich press, I'll have it installed.
I can just picture a Foreman grill screwed down somewhere bouncing open/closed as it goes down the road. <img src="<>/laugh.gif" alt="laugh" title="laugh" height="15" width="15" />
Good conversation piece at the very least.
There will be a spot tracker page but Alan has all of that info. I'll have to get him to give me links to share.
Florida bay is an option but it's risky...apparently the water can drain away for miles should the wind switch and blow out of the north. Two dudes were stranded on a 12 foot boat for three days trying to cut through Florida bay in one of the recent events.
That method works only works when the sun is up 😉
Well, Jake, if you believe the NOAA forecast I don't think you're in for a record-breaking year, but it could be a very nice sail in your light air rocket.
Weak front appears to move through Thursday night with Atlantic High dominating the rest of the weekend. Easterly direction (ENE / ESE) and light (5-10 kts) which should keep the water pretty flat near shore.
A bit more breeze as you near Cape Sable, mainly out of ENE which might make your Steeplechase routing a bit more feasible?
Sunny and warm, too.
