[How's this for a distance race?!]

THE DRAKE PASSAGE -- ON A HOBIE 21
Duncan Ross, South African cat sailor, 39 years old and Betão Pandiani, Brazilian cat sailor, 45 years old will try to cross the legendary Drake Passage on an open catamaran.

They arrived at Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego, on the 14th after towing their Hobie 21 overland from São Paulo, Brazil. The final checks on the equipment - communication equipment, cameras, batteries, food supplies and the like
were done and the team is training in the Beagle Channel for adaptation and
acclimatization until the day of departure, January 25th.

This adventure is inspired in last year's trip of two Hobie 21 SCs that went from Chile to Rio via Magellan's Strait.

I don't know if there is anything in English available in Internet.
The trip was filmed and showed on TV (Globo/Brazil).

Cheers,

Duncan raced the 2002 Tornado Worlds with Irish cat sailor, Damian Foxall, who is now about to start a Jules Verne attempt on Kingfisher 2 with Ellen MacArthur.
