Sure looks to me like they turtled and got the mast stuck in the mud. Otherwise they would have to have Hobie asbestos sails.Hobie only gives those out to the hottest sailors.

Hey, that’s Cheech and Chong !!!!!!!!! (Tim & Mark).

They won the fleet 204 Deepest and Muddiest sail contest.

Maybe of all time!!!

Easy to explain – 6 easy steps.

1) Go sailing on a windy day

2) Pitchpole

3) Turtle

4) Stick the stick in the mud

5) Try to right the boat

6) Break the mast

What they learned was to “corkscrew” the mast out of the mud, not try to brute force it out (like they did).

Sometimes you need a little finesse….

..........(sometimes you need a lot).

I usually restrict burying the mast only 2' in the mud. Its not quite as hard to remove and dosen't break the mast. Down here we say

Hot damn, whut the hail was dat

then you go get a drink.

Sail on.

That seems like a pretty hard core and crazy group up there! Makes one think that there might be a good reason to live in Canada afterall!

Heck,

When we flipped it only hurt a little bit. The waves and wind were so strong that even our comitee boat couldnt get to us for help. But right untill the second that we flipped it was a real blast.
