[#19265]

I'm in need of a set of daggerboards and rudders for a project I'm working on. Can someone measure the transoms (height&width) and the daggerboard wells (depth, sticking a ruler down the trunk) on either a Capricorn or an Infusion for me?

Thanks

Bill

Hi Bill -

Transom width = 13.25

No reason to get excited, fellas. I'm not afraid to show people my thingy. Here it is:

[Linked Image]

The technical name, according to the owner's manual (available free on the AHPC site) is the

anti-fouling loop.

Simple piece of plastic tubing that keeps slackened spin halyards from getting behind the spreader arms. AHPC didn't come up with this idea - I first saw them on Hobie Tigers quite a while ago. The Hobie guys were using a simple piece of line tied in a loop. I've seen a lot of Nacra 20 guys use this as well. The Cap was the first boat that I saw with the tubing (stiffer than line) as a stock part, with holes drilled in the spreader arms for attaching the tubing with a tiny stainless bolt and lock-nut.

You should be running that spin halyard down the front of the mast, I think...

The Spitfire has a hole in the spreader for the spinnaker halyard. The hole has a smooth plastic insert.

I run my halyard thru the spreader arm (like TikiPete); however, I (electrical) tape the corners to prevent the fraying that is caused if the halyard gets stuck in the slot shown in Pete's photo.

No fraying halyards so far.

Don't you still get friction there during your hoists? If that is a pinch-point since it is not in a direct line from the cleat at the bottom and the turning block at the top, then you are expending extra Newtons at a critical time during your race...

If there's no friction there, however, then it's a good place to run it - It seems like I remember the double spreader arms on the 6.0 were handy that way when rigging a 'chute.

I have a question? We run ours spin halyards infront of the spreader arms on the H20 but sometimes they get looped behind the arms-which makes my job harder. Is there any thing I can do to prevent that from happening?

Hi Joanna -

Look a few posts up - there's a picture of the

anti-fouling

loop that you need. <img src=

Oh, I think I got it now. I was thinking that the halyard ran on top of the

thingy

and couldn't figure out how that would help. Chalk it up to being a newbie. <img src=

alt=

/> Thanks, I will have to suggest we put on our boat.

Same noobiness here...until I pondered it a bit, I thought it odd to run it outside the ring.

I've seen a lot of boats with bungee run from the end of the spreaders to the shrouds, which I assume serves the same purpose.

You know guys-I was serious-I have only been crewing for a year now so I'm still a little slow at figuring out things. I think the bungee cord is a great idea too. Any thing to make my job pulling that halyard easier is greatly appreciated.-(If you ever meet me in person you will know what I am talking about)

I've been using the bunji tied from the tip of the spreader to the shroud - it works great, but it's a bit of a pain to rig. I think I'm going to go with a loop setup like John's

thingy

.

That is to stop the trap wires catching behind the spreader. We run both the loop as pictured earlier as well as the bungie.
