The Organizing Board of the NAF 18 Class would like to announce that the dates of the 2004 NAF 18 North American Championships have been moved to July 5-9, 2004.
The event was originally scheduled for the week of July 19-23rd, 2004 one week before start of the Transat Québec / Saint-Malo. The Transat Québec / Saint-Malo, held only every four years, include activities which are scheduled in Québec City during the ten days prior to the departure. That along with essential tidal conditions, created the perfect date selection for the Québec Regatta Organizers proposal to host the 2004 NAF18 Championships.
Since then, the regatta organizers learned that the Transat Québec / Saint-Malo Race had to move their date, thus allowing the Quebec Regatta Organizers to request the new date.
The NAF18 Board hopes that this recent turn of events will help resolve the scheduling conflict with the Hobie Tiger Continental Championship being held in Monterrey, CA July 19-23, 2004..
While the conflict was regrettable, its resolution was an opportunity to open some new lines of communication with potential F18 sailors and the Class Associations.
We would like to thank Nancy Whissel; Canadian Representative and Regatta Chair for the 2004 NAF18 Championships, and Tom Liston for their efforts and concern in making this change. We would also like to acknowledge the concerned sailors that made positive comments and effort toward this resolution.
Formula 18 racing is growing rapidly and the organizers are in the process of establishing class by-laws. We hope to have them voted on prior to the 2004 sailing season.
