It's not really the money at all - I think there are a bunch of us that are on the fence about the event...like most regattas once you hit a particular critical mass, the fence sitters start coming.

Geeesh, there's 20 to 30 catsailors in that AREA where are they? Has anyone called Captain Kirk? He doesn't venture onto the interweb much anymore (he's confused by all those tubes) but I'm sure if he gets behind it he'll bring some boats out. I can't make it due to work obligations but I would really like to see catsailors make a strong appearance down there.

When did the

Old Forum

reboot? If you can't get enough boats raise your dpn for smaller boats give them a longer course so you are'nt waiting on them to start your 2nd 65dpn race.Or ashorter course so you all come in together then you might get small boat sailors to move up to your big boy boatin the future.Right now your Promotion is a regatta killer. Aqua CatXXL markII supersport.

Out of work. It's too cold to sail, too cold to work on my boat, guess I'm looking for a fight.
Maybe that political thread did it to me too,Jake.
Matt can still piss off, though! <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" />

This regatta is a good test of the

build it... they will come theory...

And you have to agree ... the promotion by Clean is...unique!

What other Florida events are close by on the calendar that stop you guys from going?

Did you guys not have a hole in the schedule that got plugged with the Ft Peirce regatatta?

Other then the Miami to Key Largo and the river race ... do you Flordia sailors ever compete at the same events as the mono's... I would think it's the PERFECT opportunity to recruit from the rail meat sailors on the mono's. The F18's in the Pacific North West believe they have picked up a couple of boats from the big boat sailors by racing in the NOOD's. We haven't seen that on the Chesapeake but being recognized as part of the sailing organization has been good.

There is no competition between leaners and cats. To each his own. Might make a good party though.

And as far as I know it, Ding is the only one that has the official shirt so far...although Tawd might get one this year at SF. <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" />

And before you start to gripe, no, the official a$$holes don't get a say in the matter...I make-a the shirts, I make-a the rules.

The Sarasota regatta is mixed but is hurt by other multi only regattas close to the same date.

The Melbourne Yacht Club Spring and Fall regattas are mixed, but are poorly attended by the multi's again because their are multi only regattas around the same time and the MYC does a real nice job for us too.

Performance MidWinters is the weekend after the Ft. Pierce gig but I think I'm the only one from the peninsula going to that one. The GYC folks have their fleet race the weekend after also, so I don't know how motivated they will be to drop their mast the weekend before and drive across the state. Mast up storage can make you lazy 🙂 Yes! I'm quite jealous.

I'm suprised what's left of the Ft. Pierce fleet and the WPB fleet aren't already signed up. That's a 35 minute drive from WPB

Did everyone agree on a launch point for the beachcats? That beach along the inlet looks nice enough, but you can't leave your trailer or boat there overnight (I think)...

Ah... this sounds familiar.
mast up storage = slug factor
Lots of events.... not enough racers with time.

For what it's worth. i think cat fleets supporting existing yacht club events has been a huge winner on the West Coast and the Chesapeake. If the conflicting events are run by cat sailors.... maybe they take a well deserved break and take a shot at sailing the new regatta.

Keeping events fresh and exciting is important in both getting new racers to come out and keeping the old dog's interested. Club's that value mast up storage over the right amount of variety tend to run out steam in a couple of years.

Logistics (beach launch site, Storage, etc.) are gonna have to be covered and divulged before anyone is going to commit.

Catamaran Launching and Storage (because you asked for it)

Plan A - launch boats from the beach just south of the inlet breakwall. Still working on permission / logistics of trailers (can they be left there, or do they have to go back to the hotel). Beach wheels a must.

Plan B - launch from causeway park on inlet. Boats could stay on the beach ovenight, trailers would spend the night at the hotel (but could stay at the park during the day). Boats can stay on the beach overnight. Downside - there's a 1.5 mile sail just to get to the ocean. Coming back in the afternoon, there'll be a stiff current running out.

We're still working on Plan A - that's probably the best option, but we may not get all the permissions we need before the event.

I'll keep you posted.

all of the other boats are coming back through the inlet anyway, so maybe some tow lines would work if the beachcats were set up on the inlet park?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it doesn't look like my boat will be back together in time. At the very least it wont be ocean-ready in time.

The guy that's spraying the hulls had some stuff go down in his family and he promised that he'd have them back to me the week before midwinters, no sooner.

Boned.

That's definitely an option, since the mono-slugs will be heading in that way. We (the RC) will provide whatever assistance we can if the conditions are unsuitable for sailing against the current.
