Try it. It isn't what you think.

<img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" /> It requires a surprising amount of strength and balance. Also, it will point out every tight or weak muscle in your entire body. There is NO impact. Injury is very unlikely

Downside? Lots of

burn

for beginners like me.

Hey Pete, Does your new found love of Yoga have anything to do with the fact that the class is 90% pre-30, in shape, and female? <img src="<>/wink.gif" alt="wink" title="wink" height="15" width="15" />

Yoga's good. I'm just messin.

Pete,
If I can every get a regular routine to my life I will definitely start Yoga. The flexibility and strength it develops really helps as the years mount up.

I think it would be a great tool to extend my active sailing life.
With the average Off the Beach Cat sailing age going up many of the ones who stay in the sport will eventually have to be doing something like Yoga to keep in the game.
Just the way it is.
I don't mind getting old.....far better than the alternative!

Regards,
Phill

Yoga also improves balance, which IMO, is of direct importance to the sailor.

Go for it Pete, and keep us posted. I think there is a lot in common between gymnastics and yoga, and it will definately help your (any hobbyists) sailing. Most importantly, it will make everyday life a lot easier <img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" />

Hi Pete, I came across this photo...
Kudos if you can do this, but please don't try it around anyone with a weak hart (or bladder)!

Try this instead.

You'll see what I mean about strength and balance.

Pete,

I think most will not believe and appreciate how hard Yoga can be before they have tried it.

It's funny in a way. My instrutctor is a woman, about 30y.o. 5'4" 110 pounds. She can hold that pose forever. I'm good for about 30 seconds! There is a huge guy in my class, muscles you would not believe; he is just as unsteady as I and gets just as winded. Strength does not necessarily equal fitness.

Leverage = distance * weight, so it is probably easier for her, but still.. Yoga is good (gymnastics even better <img src="<>/grin.gif" alt="grin" title="grin" height="15" width="15" /> )
