Garmin 12/Etrex Legend comparison
I have a Garmin 12, and have had it for about 5 years. I've looked at the Legends, and they're nice, but I've never felt the need to "upgrade". I don't remember whether the Legend takes 4 batteries, but I know my 12 does. The extra life is really nice, over some of the more compact 2-battery units. Good luck.
Just for your information, this site's store at www.OnLineMarineStore.com has just lined up as a dealer for Garmin and other electronics and we will soon have those items posted.
May take a few weeks, but we are working on it.
Thanks,
Rick
I have the Etrex Legend, Non Color. I use it for Sailing, Mountain Biking, Hunting, and even in the Car.
It has been easy to use. I have the Topo software for it for use during Hunting season in the moutains. It will also lay your tracks back down.
I just won a Lowrance iFinder basic Model and it looks easy to use also, but I have not really goofed around with it yet.
I purchased my Etrex from .
GPS Discount.Com
and they have competative prices.
I think Garmin is a great brand, as I have had ZERO issues.
Good Luck,
I thought they didn't make the 12 any more. I bought an Etrex after my 12 went swimming when the bag came open 🙁 I thought the 12 was more ergonomic; easier to work buttons and get to where you needed to go. I also thought the 12's connector held up better in salt water, AND you could hack a 12V power cord. The Etrex was more accurate and I think it lasts longer on two batts than my 12 did on 4. The Etrex is just a little too small for the boat; hard to hold and hard to see.

Have you looked at the Garmin Foretrex 201 ?
I've owned a Garmin 45 (same size as the 12) but these are big and heavy units.
The Foretrex can be worn around the wrist or tied to the boom, batterylife is also much better.
Downside is that you cant upload maps, although IMHO preprogrammed waypoints of landmarks work just as well.

Go here and select the units you are interested in and compare side by side.
My opinion is the Legend C wins hands down. I have the Legend and the Legend C.

Mike
