Is this for real? It would be funny to know that someone at Hobie would throw a little

disinfomation

out there. I thought I saw what looked like a carbon Fox but this says carbon everything!

www.hcana.hobieclass.com/site/hobie/.../HOBIEFXCARBON_data_gb.pdf Is this for real?

It's a PDF and so far no issues.

Thoughts?

Cool. Looks small unless that guy is HUGE. <img src="<>/smile.gif" alt="smile" title="smile" height="15" width="15" /> Is there video of this thing sailing?

I wonder what Hobie's answer to the Carbon 20 will be. I had fun on my 16 today. It's getting loose and I might be looking for something in the late summer. Usually have one or two kids with me. Sort of like the bigger tramps and a jib.

So how was it, you can't leave us hanging like that.....
Looks great in the vid and on paper, sort of A-class-ish....
5.29m long
2.50m wide
16m^2 sail area
100kg
Carbon Boom
Carbon 1 piece mast
Carbon crossbars
Carbon blades
Carbon boards
Not advertised in Australia, but I'm sure Mal Gray would import me one if I had the cash.

What does the iCat cost ?

According to this French dealor

http://www.proust-sailing.com/hobie-polyester-55/

17600 Euro's

When it is NOT fitted with a spinnaker, jib or other

options

Just to give you an idea, you can buy a Tiger F18 STX with the same dealor for 15613 Euro's including the jib, spi etc.

The most expensive F16 in EU with a carbon mast upgrade (jib, selftacker, carbon foils, snuffer and pentex sails are of course standard) comes out at 17500 Euro's ready to sail. Other F16's (like the carbon stealth) are cheaper then that.

If my memory serves me right then I can buy a modern design A-cat for 17500 Euro's as well (alu beams)

Hey Wouter,
That's not too bad, Glenn Ashby Quoted me $20,400 Euro (converted from AUS) for a brand new Geltek fully decked out. I would've bought one too, but I'm over-weight to be competetive on one of his boats.

I don't know what your weight is...but I'm not a bad sailor and I get beat quite often by 200lb+ sailors on gelteks.

Thanks for the info Jake, I do appreciate it as I'm still learning alot about cats. I love the tech aspect of the A class, but that won't get me spinnaker experience. The design of the F20 has changed my whole outlook for the future, it has given me something to be inspired to work toward.
That advice was from Ashby himself, but I want to try and get some spinnaker work in to re-earn some respect from my relatives anyway, which is what got me out of interest in the A cat. And all my relatives never let me forget that they all did it in Fireballs.
The path to the F20 isn't down the A class alley, but I'd love to give the A class a few years in the future....

What would you guys say is a good tutorial DVD, book or resource to get racing tips for cats? Is there anything relatively recent?

I would have bought a bunch of if there was a pay pal option. So much easier.

The old school fill everything out just sucks the desire to purchase out of me.

I would even subscribe to the rag and probably buy other things too.
