[#26118]

Hello,

Looking at a 1997 H20, spin + trailer, looks ok on photo's.

I'm 4.5 hrs from the boat. Owner says boat is a 1997 sail #393

Does this seem right ? Any idea's of market value of boat.

Thanks,

Steve

No chance the boat is a '97 if that's the original sail.

Hobie 20 is a great boat. Unusual for it to have a spin - I'd ask about the pole and the cut of the 'chute. The boat handles a smaller, flatter spin very well - there were a couple in the Round the Island race out of Fort Walton, FL, every year. There is still a pretty good class of 20s in certain parts of North America.

Check out the somewhat dated but still very useful Sailing Pro Shop Buying Guide for good tips. Also check out the Hobie Class website for class rules and links to the Hobie forums and tuning guides.

Happy shopping -

NADA guide says the boat is worth between $5200 - $5900 with spinnaker, but does not include the trailer. Remember that NADA is just a guide and condition is everything. As for the sail #, they could have newer sails and happen to like those numbers.

Mine's a '93 and #287.

We have a spinnaker and it works well in light to medium conditions. The first spinny was a very big N6.0 style launched from the tramp. Now we have a snuffer and new Tornado spinny.

Value would be based more on condition than anything else.

$3000 to $4500 probably. Pretty cheap thrills.

Our 1993's original sail # was like 307, replaced by a sail ~ 1998 (#532). Somewhere abouts 1998 to 2000, Hobie changed from the original Elliot-Patterson (E-P) fuller cut sail to a Hobie manufactured sail which is a much flatter. Look at the sail, if the E-P sticker is in the first panel, she's an oldie. Also look for delamination or pulling apart at seams.

Check the transom for serial number to identify exact year of hulls. Last few digits will identify year (i.e. CM...xxx97F)

My 95 had sail number 486. I sold it (in great condition) for $3500 to a guy in Florida with trailer.
